Can anyone tell me the history of these photos posted on eBay?

Photos came from an estate sale of a former employee of Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

I'm not sure of the detail but I recall this was what von Braun referred to as "The can opening." It was an experiment circa 1963/4 in which a couple of guys were locked in to a mock up lunar lab or MOLAB to test systems, suits and practicalities associated with long duration stays on the moon. The mock-up I believe was christened "Lunex II." After 18 days the test subjects were let out to be met by von Braun and their respective wives.

The names of the participants escapes me but neither were astronauts.

As Rick mentioned, the MOLAB program got started in 1963 as a NASA Apollo Logistics Support Systems project by GE (and I think with Boeing and Bendix as well). It was a simulated mobile lunar laboratory, also named "MGL" for Mobile Geological Laboratory, that accommodated a pair of non-astronaut test subjects in 1964 within its 13 square meter wheeled cabin-module up to 14 days.

These two men were wearing the suit von Braun once tried out.

All times are CT (US)
