Has anyone come across this type of display before, flown wiring from STS-95? Seller says that it was purchased from the space center gift shop in 1998, and has previously sold two others just like it. |

My two cents: the wording "Discovery Space Shuttle" (as opposed to "the Space Shuttle Discovery") is odd for a supposedly NASA product. The "NASA" seals on the box seem to be trying too hard. |

If it were sold at the space center gift shop, wouldn't they have the ability to use the official NASA meatball? I also don't like the COA actually having those words - if it were really from the shuttle (and I'm not saying it isn't), wouldn't a smaller version of NASA letterhead be used? |

NASA does not directly sell its property through any gift shops, at its visitor centers or elsewhere. The space agency also does not endorse commercial products, and thus does not issue certificates of authenticity. If this is authentic (and given the issues with the packaging, it is questionable, at best), then it originated from a third party. (Also, an observation: Discovery landed from the STS-95 mission on Nov. 7, 1998; it is unlikely anything from the orbiter was processed through NASA surplus in time for it to be purchased, repackaged, sold wholesale to a visitor center and then be available for the seller to buy in 1998.) |

It looks like someone hacked that off with a dull butter knife. I would think that, if this was legitimate, NASA would have done a cleaner job of cutting the wire. Not to mention, it appears to be just dropped loose into cheap plastic packaging, left to flop around. Whoever put this together (and I personally doubt it was NASA) sure didn't take any care in presentation. |

This same seller also has listings for (terrible) Stan Lee autographs with "Marvel Authentic" holograms that, like the NASA Authentic ones on this listing, exist only on items offered by this seller. It looks to me like they got a sheet of blank hologram stickers and decided to put their printer to use. |

To the best of knowledge, this artifact(s) were never for public sale at the KSCVC during the 1990s as advertised. As a frequent KSC-NASA vendor since the 80's, I have never seen nor knew/heard of it until now. Note that the NASA meatball logo is incomplete and using word phrases like "Spaceship" along with a "NASA Security" tape label — just no way! |

And the exact same "security hologram" inventory code sticker used on these items is currently available, custom-printed, here. Pretty sure NASA wasn't ordering these "economy" stickers from some bulk online provider... |
