I am no expert but this seems a bit strange to me. Any ideas?

Having a Saturn V on a MLP seems odd and having the NASA worm logo on the piece seems out of place. Perhaps not strange at all. Thoughts? (The auction has ended.)

In a word: terrible. Terrible fake (No COA, no photos, proof of provenance) and terrible sentiment cashing in on the Apollo 1 fire tragedy. You would think, if it were an authentic piece from Pad 34, it would have more 'documentation' than a pasted photo of a Saturn V (not a IB) and it appears to be a nondescript piece of metal (at first I thought it was part of a school desk) not even preserved in a careful way. Avoid it at all costs.

While I agree the provenance is very weak, I wouldn't be too quick to declare it a fake. It looks like the type of early- to-mid 80s display that NASA produced for its visitor centers or outreach efforts.

The late Charlie Bell had a number of these poorly pieced together displays in his lot, picked up at government surplus auctions.

I'm not saying this is one of them, but it would not surprise me if it was authentic. (If it is real though, I wouldn't appraise it anywhere near the $15,000 it was offered.)

All times are CT (US)
