The seller of this item (which ends in just a few hours) is a longtime collector and perhaps a cS member. But I think it's strange that the map is described twice as "flown", but Mitchell didn't mention that in the inscription and there is no provenance shown.

I wrote to the seller to ask about that, and he said that he didn't ask Mitchell to mention it when he signed it, and that Mitchell wouldn't have written "LM-3" if it hadn't been flown. (Anyone know why he would have written "LM-3"? Lunar Module 3 was flown on Apollo 9 - what else could that be referring to?)

Does anyone have any thoughts about this item?

I took a look and well I wouldn't bid myself. Just because someone says it's flown in the description doesn't mean anything to me. On flown items you need pretty solid provenance usually mentioned and signed by the astronaut themselves.

And messaging the seller for provenance, ha, I don't trust. I've heard a lot of stories. The description is one sentence that is a tip off to me that they don't want to talk about it.

Well, the LM on Apollo 14 was the third one to land on the moon. Nothing else comes to mind.

All times are CT (US)
