It needs a space shuttle patch to be complete. |

BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA! I loved this! Quite the collection (and the COA is the icing on what appears to be the cake...) |

Hey, at least the signature appears to be real making this presentation better than many other things on eBay! However isn't that what NASA should be concerned about more than watching collectors selling stuff - people not knowing history? |

Not to weigh down this topic with a more serious reply, but no, NASA has its priorities correct. As a federal agency, NASA has the responsibility to make sure public property under its charge is not improperly appropriated. It also has a duty to document and share its history, which it does through books, online publications, video programs and other multimedia projects. That an eBay seller does not take advantage of any of the resources provided is not NASA's responsibility, nor should it be. Especially today, when a five second web search would provide everything you need to know about who Donald Slayton was, that he went by "Deke" and that he never walked on the moon. |

Other than "Don" instead of Deke - there is nothing being represented in this listing that I can see.He never states Slayton was a moonwalker or aboard Apollo 13. How is this any different than reputable company selling mylar from a command module inside a lucite with an image of a lunar lander? Would I buy it - never but the seller does not appear to be doing anything improper. |

Not improper, just uninformed. |

Yes, not inproper, but uninformed. Well said.In my opinion NASA has completely failed in the past years to justify their work and taxpayers money by failing to keep up a national (and international) interest and enthusiasm.(and rather shot in their own legs by going after Jim Lovell's checklist that has probably created more damage to the agency than anything else). It may not be their primary responsibility, but ultimately their fate if people/taxpayers feel their money is not spent well. We need more people like Bezos, Musk etc. with a vision not a bureaucrat mind. Okay, that's slightly off-topic now. |

NASA's work is not justified by the public's interest, nor is it the agency's role to be an evangelist for space exploration. That said, I think you'd be hard pressed to maintain that the inquiry into Lovell's checklist drew a larger audience worldwide than did Curiosity landing on Mars. Or for that matter, the new "Pale Blue Dot" photo from Cassini. quote: Originally posted by jimsz: Other than "Don" instead of Deke - there is nothing being represented in this listing that I can see.
Jim's right — the choice of the Apollo 11 photo stylistically plays off the Apollo 11 stamp on the Apollo 13 cover. Still, the use of "Don" shows a lack of effort on the part of the seller (or whoever originally created the framed presentation). |

Sadly in many instances it did not always document many of its actions so frustrating many lines of research into events that might be considered to be away from the main stream of its activities. |

Happily in all instances it focused on its main stream activities of training astronauts, launching spacecraft and exploring space, even if it did not always have the resources to document these activities as thoroughly as future collectors might like. |

It was not sold and has been relisted. Still as Don Slayton. I guess you can say it is accurate as his name was Donald but no one seemed to have ever called him anything other than Deke. |
