I know Bill Lenoir signed his photos through the mail as "W B Lenoir," but I'm wondering about the letter accompanying it, if it was real as well or a printed signature (even though the content was geared to the asker). The signature at the bottom reads a full, "William B Lenoir," and I get suspicious when the letter and photo doesn't match. Had anybody kept those letters from Lenoir and knows for sure? |

Which, if it is real, is a puzzle: Why sign formally on a letter, even to an autograph collector, and first two initials and last name on a photo? Was it faster to do the latter, have a whole stack of them waiting to be sent out and then just customize and sign a form letter? |

Hart, I suspect you have 'hit the nail on the head'. If I were an astronaut I would sign a pile of photos when I had some spare time and then send them out as necessary. It would also make sense to just use initials when doing a lot of signatures. But the letter is more likely to be personal and thus he may just happen to have signed it differently and with a longer version of his name. Just a thought! |
