It's a little hard to tell from those images but they look OK to me. Will you be posting better images when it arrives? |

Got the framed photo and inspected it closer. Looks legit to me. Wasn't mentioned in the description that it has a stamp affixed below Armstrong's autograph that is postmarked in Washington DC July 20, 1979. I have tried to research the events of the 10th anniversary, but didn't come up with much. I just know that all three of the crew were at The National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC on that day for a ceremony. Just makes me believe that this item could have been signed on that day by all three. The stamp affixed possibly for provenance. I would assume they did a signing session possibly? |

I don't know if the crew sat down to sign autographs at the National Air and Space Museum that day (although I tend to doubt it, as news reports suggested they drew a crowd of more than 2,000 people) but it doesn't look like they signed the piece in one sitting.Collins signed mostly on the stamps. His autograph runs onto the print as well, establishing the stamps were already affixed to the photo when he signed. By 1979, Armstrong had ceased signing all philatelic material — anything with a stamp (somewhere in my archives I have a letter from Armstrong's NASA secretary stating he had decided to stop signing stamped items in 1971). So, that would suggest Armstrong signed the print before any stamps were added... |

Thanks Robert for the info. Looking closer at the print, the stamp block is postmarked with the first day issue stamp where the postmark says, "MOON LANDING JUL 20 1969 USA." To the left of that postmark is another that says, if I can read it right, "WASHINGTON, DC SEPT 9 1969 DC." Possibly the date the stamps were issued? (Unless I'm an idiot and something significant happened that day and I don't recall it.) Now I'm getting a better picture. I was curious and wondering why the 10th anniversary stamp and postmark was so far away. If Armstrong wouldn't have signed it in '79, then I may assume the owner was planning on stamping and postmarking all the anniversaries along the bottom, but he/she only got as far as the 10th. I'll never know. It's kinda fun to play detective on the few little things that I'm given. With the fading of the autographs I could see the Neil and Buzz signatures being signed between 69-71. Possibly the Collins too, just held up better on the stamp block. Anyway, thanks again! |

Since, everything had to be period, it got me thinking about the photo the signatures are on. Is it period? It is postmarked Sept. 9, 1969 so it has to be. I then found a YouTube video of a guy that found vintage large sized prints. Was pretty happy to see this. Things are lining up a bit. |
