I recently purchased a STS-131 patch from Bama Space Patches MH1 out of Santa Fe, TX on eBay in early Nov. and still have not received it or have gotten replies back. I believe they also offered other patches on eBay including STS-129 and 130.

Does anyone have information or first hand knowledge of this company. I checked their feedback and a good many people replied they were very slow in delivery, had bad communication or had to get a refund.

I also purchased a Soyuz flight patch at same time with same results. Just wondering if this company is a scammer.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I ordered a patch some time ago, sent immediate payment, and got nothing. I emailed the seller and was told it shipped. Eventually I provided my address again and seller claimed to have sent another one. Still nothing.

I emailed again and was given a wide variety of excuses. I asked for and was given a refund.

I find it surprising that a seller with so many items offered (at the time) had such a difficult time delivering on sales. I would advise all to avoid this seller...no scam, just really poor customer service.

Is this person out of Alabama or Texas? Santa Fe (TX) is near Galveston.

Before bidding on eBay always check the seller's feedback.

Any seller can get negative feedback from an occasional difficult customer but repeated negative and neutral feedback with similar comments should be a red flag to buyers. It's also worth reading the positives as even these can sometimes mention late deliveries or minor problems.

I've bought patches in the past from this particular seller with no problems and if you check the feedback everything is perfect until October this year. Since then there's been several negatives for items not delivered and a neutral for an item delivered 2 months late. Something seems to have gone a bit awry, but hopefully it's temporary.

Anyway, the moral is: check the feedback first, bid later.

I would like to warn everyone who buys patches from eBay to steer clear of Bama Space Patches out of Texas. I purchased a Soyuz TMA-14 and STS-131 patch from them and have yet to receive them. Turns out they have a lot of negative feedback and people have problems getting their items. I waited too late to file a claim for they told me three times they had shipped out my patches and kept me hoping though I never got them. Now I'm out $17.15! I will never buy from them again. I advise others to do the same. It has been the worst eBay experience since I started eBay in 1999. Beware!

I know if you paid through PayPal you can at least make an attempt to get your money back. I filed a complaint about an item I purchased elsewhere and got every cent back, even shipping charges.

Give it a shot - couldn't hurt.

I attempted the other day to file complaint with Paypal and they gave me the same advice to do it within 45 days of payment. Paypal pretty much said tough luck-can't help. Am I giving up too easily? Also, the TMA-14 patch, as I learned and feeling dumbfounded, is only one of the finalists and not even the final patch. It is worthless and not even legitimate. Guess I wasn't thinking about that when I bid. They should not even be selling this patch.

I hope you are all going to post negative feedback for them. At least it will warn others.

My experiences are mixed. Some time ago I received some patches from her not too late after my payment.

But the last patches I bought from her have not reached me as of today.

I remember that she had trouble with her computer back in 2009. But that cannot be an explanation for her current problems...

Harald, you should file a complaint with ebay/paypal NOW, if it is still within the time period for doing that.

You can always withdraw the complaint if you receive the items, and the threat of losing the money might be enough to stir the seller up in to doing something.

If you don't receive the items, at least you'll get your money back.

AND you can still leave negative feedback as a warning to others.

I mailed her a question regarding my patch and received the following answer:
The patch in question is on its way to you. We were late filling many orders because the owner was in critical condition at local hospital. She is home now recupperating. I virtully knew nothing about ebay but have lerned FAST and the order was mailed out. You should have it soon.
Looks like it's kind of illness which stopped her doing "the business".

I have watched this scenario play itself out on this forum more than once. I wish bamaspacepatches well and hope she is on the road to a full recovery.

But she and other sellers should alert their customers when a situation that will delay filling orders arises. Either by registering on this site and/or posting a notice on ebay. Know your demographic and make them aware before they start contacting you to ask where there merchandise is.

I'm confident the buyers would appreciate this notice. While the seller may recieve some canceled orders, they could avoid this situation they find themselves in now where upset customers are alerting everyone they know to stay away.

It's just good business.

Okaaaaaaaaaaay, well, that MIGHT be a legitimate reason...

But my advice still stands. If it is coming close to the deadline for filing a dispute with eBay/PayPal (30 days?) and you haven't received your item, whatever it might be (and to be honest, the vast majority of items should arrive within 10 days at the most) then file a dispute before you run out of time! You can retract the claim when/IF you get your item.

I filed a claim when my item was three weeks late, despite receiving assurances from the seller, and being told that they were/had been/were about to be in hospital. I made it clear to the seller that I was doing it merely to protect myself, as per the strong advice of papal. If you read the small print, Paypal IS there to help you with these things, until the time limit expires, after which they remove themselves entirely from YOUR problem.

My ($50) item then arrived, and I cancelled my claim. Everybody was happy.

I see this seller previously said what a fuss about $6. Well, okay, that's fine, just refund the $6 then...

Tim, I am absolutely with you.

Agree on filing a complaint/dispute with eBay/PayPal.

Like I said before I was told the same excuse about the hospital stay and was told three TIMES since November that my patches were shipped and on the way. I never got them. Very fishy to promise something three times and never receive. The fellow seemed really nice and apologetic, but maybe that is just their ploy of appeasement. Never again!

I could tell you a tragic tale of a broken MixMaster, A12 Kapton, health woes etc, but in my ebay experience, the bottom line is ALWAYS file a complaint with ebay/paypal if you haven't got your purchase within 21 days.

In my opinion, eBay and PayPal are next to useless, they really don't like making good on their promises to cover you, but if the complain was filed in a timely, even early, manner, you have some hope of recovering your money.

My sympathies to any 'One man band' sellers who legitimately are unable to fill an order for health reasons, but I've heard that story way to many times - followed by silence and closed eBay accounts, to give it any credence when I hear it.

Bottom line - they took your money - protect yourself!

To be correct until the final step: Today I received my ordered patch from her.

After reading all this, and being a relative newcomer to eBay, I decided to check out this seller's feedback profile.

I'm not trying to yell, "liar, liar, pants on fire" but if the actual seller was in the hospital, and the person left in charge knew nothing about eBay, why did so many items continue to go up for auction? I looked at the feedback going back to the beginning of October, and there is a steady stream of feedback. Obviously someone was steadily continuing to make sales for this seller.

Moreover, on any negative feedback, the seller refuses to accept any blame and even calls one buyer an idiot. Doesn't sound like anyone I would want to deal with and frankly, I would be far more likely to believe someone here on cS than the seller.

I'm sorry people had bad experiences and hopefully everyone will be wary of this person.

Does anyone have a complete list of patches that these folks produced/sold? It looks like STS-130 and STS-131, but were there others? Was the only channel for purchasing their reproductions on eBay?

I am suspecting that they may have produced, at least, STS-124 and STS-133 replicas as well.

All times are CT (US)
