Topic: Apollo-Soyuz flown flag, signed on-orbit?

A friend of mine owns a flag that was sold to him on the following premise: that the flag was flown aboard the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and signed on-orbit.I would welcome others opinions of the signatures and the likelihood of the account being accurate; perhaps help with manifests from the flight that might confirm the account.  |

As an exhibitor of an Apollo-Soyuz Test Project collection, these signatures do not look like anything I have received. |

A big thumbs down in my opinion. The sigs look terrible and the type of flag--and size?--of it "flown" aboard CM-111 is highly unlikely. |

Even allowing for writing on beta cloth (supposedly in zero gravity) those signatures do look bad, especially the Brand. |

Without knowing the fact I already told the owner it's one of the Maxuta sold fakes... and yes... he confirmed it has been sold by Maxuta about three years ago.Absolutely terrible autograph fakes... not even thinking about flown or not flown. |

Thanks for the responses guys. Florian can vouch safe that the flag does not belong to me and I will be sure to pass on the responses to my friend.This may be too simplistic an observation, but given the historical nature of such a signing I would have thought..... were this signed flag genuine, greater thought would have been given to the pens used; three different pens, (some clearly better suited to the task). And I presume the crews would have signed the flag at the same time so why the varity of types and colour?. If another member owns a crew signed flown flag from ASTP, or has on record a photo of such an item, perhaps they could post the image here for comparative purposes? |

I'm no expert but I have never seen a flag with a stitched section like the one on the left of this flag. It looks like a pocket has been created to insert a small tube or rod which would hold up the flag. Is this common? |

Maxuta?! No surprise there. Maxuta/Maksuta/Maxim Martinov has been a very active and ultra-successful seller of all sorts of cosmonaut stuff for many years. His stuff has been seen for at least 8 years, and sold and re-sold by big auction houses, eBay, other dealers, and he was the 1st and chief provider of Soyuz 11 stuff.While many are quite aware of the nature of his material, many others are oblivious or unconcerned, and he continues to be at the reins of a flourshing business. He's specialized in Yuri Gagarin signatures on many types of material and often with many other early cosmonaut signatures added, plus sometimes including signatures of Sergei Korolev and even Nikita Khrushchev. His inventory consists of signed photos, covers, signed flown flags and pennants, signed letters by Gagarin, Korolev. etc. He and his material has been discussed here many times and, hopefully, a fair number of collectors have been informed and made aware, but obviously there are many others who make up a sizable clientiele. |

I have flown covers which were signed on board ASTP by all five with three different pens. The Russian cosmonauts had AG7 Fisher space pens with their names engraved.No doubt: The flag is a fake like most of Maxuta's offers. |

Wow! I'm really glad I came across this thread. Maxuta/Maksuta is trying to sell a pair of boots from a Soviet Krechet lunar suit on eBay. I was thinking about buying them and was looking to see if he was reputable. Looks like I should avoid buying them!!
