Two years ago I visited a garage sale in the DC metro area. Among other things the man was selling a box load of NASA photos and other materials. His story was that his father was a NASA photographer/press person and this stash was something he found when his father had died. On a whim I picked them up.

The majority of the find are 700+ black and white photos of various missions. Each has a bluish / purple photo description on the back including the ‘meatball’ logo and a naming scheme like 72-H-215 and 68-H-985 (There are some other naming schemes but the year-H-numeric is the only consistent one). The paper has no Kodak logo that I’ve been able to find.

What's interesting is that some of the photos have no statement on the back. Instead taped to the back is a separate piece of paper with the statement. Some of the statements have hand written corrections on them. It almost looks as if these are the originals that the press kits were made from.

Can someone help me understand what I really have here?

If there is something specific you want to look at I can scan it. If you are in the Mid-Atlantic area I’d be happy to bring them by for an in person inspection. If you can recommend someone that could appraise them that would be just as good.

My eventual goal is to sell them, along with the other materials that came with it, as a block.

All times are CT (US)
