This (not my auction) is interesting: A letter requesting crew signatures as samples, so that awards to employees can be prepared.

Given the number of flown flags and patches on any given shuttle mission, what's the criteria for original signatures to be placed on a presentation piece v. having photographed signatures?

In other words, do the US flag presentations always have authentic signatures and payload patches always have printed signatures?

I know that my STS-1 thru 4 flags all have preprinted. STS-6 and STS-41D are all actual signatures (ballpoint pen and markers). So I guess it really depends on the presentation and the mission.

All times are CT (US)
