With regards to this auction, I'm curious about others' opinions.The space shuttle affixed to the plaque looks to be one of the rubber magnets issued in the 1980s — I have an identical one on my fridge. The inscription plaque uses a very unusual font for "The Space Shuttle Challenger STS 7" in light of this apparently being issued by an Air Force Base. Maybe I am scrutinizing unnecessarily... (I am not intending to cast aspersions on the seller. S/he is offering other flight test center memorabilia. I am only interested in thoughts about the plaque itself.) |

I think it looks tacky enough to warrant a pass. Something just feels off about it.The inscription also reads "STS #7". I've never seen the pound sign used in any NASA or USAF docs which referred to the shuttle flight numbering system. The presentation looks homegrown to me rather than a NASA or USAF commissioned piece. |

It is most certainly home made - no organisation or company would sell something like that. You would be going off the reputation of the seller on this one I think. |

Well, NASA, nor the Air Force, ever sold any of its flown hardware, and in the '70s and '80s created some really wonky looking plaques, but this one I agree looks homemade... |

I see. Well, you wouldn't find me selling anything like that. I usually check the other items the seller has for sale but they don't have much to go on.Hit and miss, at best I think Robert. |

Definitely a private presentation in every way. The nut on the plaque even looks like several of my own from many years ago, however, none of those I had from this variety flew on STS-7 that I aware of. |

The shuttle in the upper left has Columbia on it and not Challenger.I wouldn't even touch this with a 50 foot robotic arm... |

To be fair, I think that shuttle is a magnet that was just placed on that plaque because it is a shuttle, not the shuttle that the piece supposedly came from. |
