I just got an envelope full of space autographs. I'm curious if they're real. They're all backed by certificates from this outfit.I was given these by someone who apparently got them in a big lot of other stuff and he wasn't a space fan (class right place/right time kind of thing) so he gave them to the next space fan he knew of. So, here's what I have now: - Max Faget, photocopy of the patent for the Mercury capsule.
- Wally Schirra
- Jim McDivitt
- And the one I most hope is real... Gene Cernan NASA litho
So, opinions? I normally don't collect autographs except in person so I have no idea of these look good or not... |

The Cernan, McDivitt and Faget look good to me - I am inclined to think the Schirra is good as well... |

Good to know. It's not like there was an Armstrong in there (I think I would have passed out had I pulled one of those form the envelope when it showed up).I assume these are relatively common signatures? I don't collect autographs except from people I've personally met... |

It is always nice to have friends who know you as a space fan. |

Yeah, tell me about it!Actually it was odd how this turned out. I was on a sci-fi forum and had posted on my experiences at Space Camp (adult program, that is) last year. I didn't know this guy from Adam prior to this and the other day I got a PM from him saying he had this NASA stuff he wanted to give to a good home. I was skeptical at first (as I'd also posted shots of my WW2 collection, including several firearms), so I gave him an alternate address instead, just in case as you hear stories of people doing stuff like this looking to steal your stuff. I feel sort of silly for doubting the guy now, considering what showed up. And he wouldn't even let me pay him for his postage! This isn't the first time something like this has happened, a couple of guys here at this forum have done similar things, sort of a 'pay it forward' thing, I guess. I've been doing similar things for others due to that... |
