Topic: Help identifying bagged Apollo 11 medallion

I am a regular reader of collectSPACE, I just never got round to joining. I am not a collector and everyone seemed to know more than me and my questions were already being asked! I don't intend to become a collector, but have recently purchased a few low priced items for pure pleasure, including a couple of coloured glass bottles, one commemorating Apollo 14 and the other Apollo 15. I also purchased this. Curiosity got the better of me and I have been trying to figure out exactly what it is.
The image on both sides match Franklin Mint set 3 of medallions made from flown metal and presented as sets. Set 3 was silver coloured, but this is a gold finish medallion in an individually sealed bag. General searching for Apollo 11 medallions has not found another like it. I'd like to confirm that it is of very little value, as rather than keep it in it's bag I think I'd like to put it in a frame or some other kind of display. |

If I recall correctly (and I'm a patch collector, not a coin collector), those were made by Franklin Mint. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. I'm pulling this from memory. But you're right, they were silver. However, they also made bronze ones as well. What you have is a bronze version. Value? I can't say, but I can't see where removing it from the bag to frame it or seal it in a coin carrier would be bad either. Enjoy it. It's a great collection item. |

Heh heh heh, that's how it starts!Then just a signed book (but only reading it for the articles), a lithograph (I'm buying it for a friend), and a flag (hey, it was flown, and it was on sale...) Welcome to the dark side! |

Many thanks for the help. I'm a little surprised that even with the correct search of bronze rather than gold finish or gold color, I'm failing to find any images of it other than as part of the silver colored set.Any ideas for a presentation case, previous coins that I have owned have already been ready for display. What is the correct name to call these items, coins medallions or medals? |

I'm sure you are right that this is how it starts!I read Deke! without having known he did eventually fly ASTP, so that mission has a little soft spot for me, I also just bought myself a Russian commemorative pin for that mission.
