I recently purchased a Stuart Roosa signed photo. The one that has the Apollo 14 emblem in the background. The photo is inscribed and signed by Roosa and to my pleasant surprise the back of the photo has the watermarks that state "A Kodak Paper."

I saw a lithograph photo that wasn't inscribed to someone go for a considerable amount. Is a signature on a photo that says A Kodak Paper more valuable than one on the regular lithograph? Thanks.

You're bringing up two different factors, which each can influence value.
  1. A personalized photo is likely to sell for less than an unpersonalized photo. Only under rare circumstances will a personalized photo sell for more...perhaps if it has a unique inscription or the recipient was someone famous.

  2. A NASA color photographic print on "A Kodak Paper" is generally worth more than the same image on a lithograph. This is particularly true if it's an image with a red serial number printed on the front. However, other factors such as condition and fading of the image are worth taking into consideration. And some collectors have a preference for one type of print over another, with both photos and lithos having their own fans.
Also, keep in mind that other factors will also determine value (and that's already assuming the signatures are authentic). Signature placement, pen type, contrast, image content, ink fading, etc. can all play a role in determining collector interest and value.

The difference in value between personalized and unpersonalized photos (of the same photo) is considerable. If your photo wasn't inscribed it might fetch anywhere from $500 to over a thousand on a good day. With it being inscribed though, you might be lucky to get $200 for it. Maybe not even that.

A good comparison is Ron Evans. A uninscribed litho of his would sell in the high hundreds or even over a thousand. Someone has had a personalized one on eBay forever that they cant sell for (I think) $180. The difference is that big.

All times are CT (US)
