I was worried about a Peachstate. I have trouble telling a Peachstate forgery if it is not signed over the flag. |

What about the ones that are not on a WSS photo? You need to be able to identify those, too. |

Here's one example of a Peachstate Armstrong other than a WSS portrait. The style is the same as on his 100+ WSS's and with some study, these can be easily identified. This example is on an Apollo 11 crew portrait and the scan is from a color copy of the actual litho that Frohman offered me back in 1998. I asked when and where it was signed and from his letter dated Sept. 16, 1998, he informed me that it was signed in Ohio c. 1989. After turning down his offer to trade it involving one of my TTM Armstrongs, I later saw him offering it in Autograph Collector Magazine for $1,375.Having a date given by the seller makes it possible to compare this style with the Armstrong Autograph Exemplars here on cS, and when so doing, this "1989" style doesn't correspond to any examples from that time-period and is hard to fit in anywhere.  |

Yes. One or two surfaced that were personalized "To David," but they were the exception to the rule.

And from what I recall, the "To David" inscribed example only appeared in David Frohman's Armstrong signature study, alongside several other unpersonalized Peachstate forgeries. Did Frohman ever make any claims as to the origin of the personalized example? |

In the brief time that David Frohman allowed questions about his forgeries and activities, he responded to a question about the origin of his "To DAVID" Peachstate Armstrong. He claimed that the "To DAVID" piece did not originate from the hoard he said he purchased, but was photocopied in passing over the years.As far as personalized Peachstate Armstrongs, the only known and recorded example, the "To DAVID," is found in his "Study." Also a lunar surface photo was sold on eBay years ago with a Peachstate Armstrong and an "11-10-87" inscription added underneath. |

It's easy to identify a Peachstate Armstrong whether on a WSS or not. Shown here is a fairly standard Peachstate Armstrong for demonstration purposes. However, it's unusual in that it only barely touches the flag patch. The large majority cross the flag.To get started, one outstanding characteristic of the Peachstates, and mistake, is that the long vertical downstrokes of the "N" and of the "A" are usually not parallel to each other, while those lines on authentic Armstrongs are almost unfailingly parallel. This is actually an earlier example, as they did improve somewhat as time went on.  |
