This one has me baffled. The formation of most letters looks good but double-l in Allan and double-p in Shepard? A very good but dyslexic forger?

If Shepard's name is mis-spelled on the "Pay to," it's possible he endorsed it the same way. I vaguely recall some rule about endorsing a check exactly as it is in the "pay to."

Perhaps whoever made the check out to Shepard misspelled his name on the front and Shepard simply went along with it and signed his name that way. I doubt Shepard had any problem cashing a check no matter how he signed it.

It's hard to tell without seeing the front but the sig looks pretty good to me, there's not much money in this, and there's a lot easier things to do than forge checks.

Good work - that sounds like just about the only plausible explanation.

The letter formation, especially the "S", seems like a perfect match for the genuine Shepard signature. Looks like you've got a rare one there Paul.

I was thinking of popping on it just for the curiosity value. Looks like someone beat me to it.

I asked the seller if he had any idea why Shepard had misspelled his name. He theorized that maybe it was to keep the check writer from selling the check after the bank returned it. From what I know of Shepard, that sounds plausible.

Is it mis-spelled on the face of the check?

If not, can you tell what the check is for? Curious if we can determine now if it was an obvious attempt to send Shepard a check to obtain his signature on the reverse.

My belief is, if the name is misspelled on the front of the check, then the person who is cashing or depositing the check must sign that way AS WELL AS the correct way. At least, that's what I've done.

The seller told me that Shepard's name is spelled correctly on the front of the check. I'm putting my money on Shepard not wanting the guy to profit from his autograph.

This has Allan Sheppard too (at least it does in the title and description).

All times are CT (US)
