Last autumn I chose to diversify my consigning habits and try a UK-based auction house. Having "International" in their name I thought my lend an air of credibility and I offered them the chance to auction some 30+ prime space pieces. I shipped in September 2012 for listing in their December auction. I was surprised when the December auction came along to discover that they hadn't list any of my items. I had to ask what they had done with them.I was offered a February listing so went with that but had to ask for the return of the stuff they didn't like. They returned approximately 75% of my items, even though most of them have good provenance or have been authenticated AND they had had four months to evaluate them. The February auction came along and, despite requests for a confirmation of what they had listed, none was forthcoming. After writing a stinging complaint I eventually got a post-auction results list and grudging apology. The results of the few sales were disappointing. The lesson here: stick with the big boys, like RR, who offer top-notch customer service and communication. I wasted six months on a dead-end track and missed several other consigning opportunities thanks to this farce. | |
