In a recent posting, I mentioned about the discovery this week of unnumbered signed Neil Armstrong Paul Calle prints. These were signed at the exact same time as all the other ones with these few being gifted to the Foundation back in the day. With the signings this month at Astronaut Central, I am wondering if I should add Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin to one of these beauties. I know there are mixed emotions out there among folks but I need to know the opinion from cS'ers. Do I add these two pioneers to this print or keep it just Mr. Armstrong? Remember this is an unnumbered print, says "/1000" but no number was written in before the slash. I know it would be expensive to add Buzz ($1,500) but Michael is inexpensive. I need to hear everyone's thoughts asap. Also, there might be one more remaining if anyone is interested. Let me know. I believe it is being offered for $5,000. |

An interesting dilemma Randy. Speaking personally I would not add Aldrin and Collins.I may be wrong, but I don't think from a purely commercial standpoint the value of the finished item would be raised to the extent a complete crew signed portrait or book may be. Largely because the Calle print was a tribute to Neil... and not the others. While I am not opposed to the notion of adding the others to already signed Armstrong items the Calle print is a classic piece of authentic memorabilia best left untouched, in my opinion. |

I agree with Rick. I would also add that it's one of those things that once you've sent it in, you've lost some measure of control over signature placement, angle, and getting a pencil to match close enough. I can't even imagine sending a $5000 item in and having a pencil lead break on it mid signature.Leave it as is...a classic. |

I'll weigh in here since I have some history with the prints... I believe the "un-numbered" prints were held in case there were damaged prints, basically as replacements. I would be curious how they have surfaced. There was the edition of 1000 prints and then there were a small number of prints designated as Artist Proofs. Artist Proof prints are what I own and I believe there may have been 12 of those. I personally feel that the Calle/Armstrong print is one of those definitive Armstrong signed items that should be left as it was intended, signed by Neil Armstrong and Paul Calle. I agree with most of what others have posted here. Adding Buzz and Mike wouldn't be much different than adding them to a signed Armstrong WSS litho; it'd seem weird, in my opinion. |

Absolutely not.If you want to complement the Calle piece try locating the pieces that Chris Bazil commissioned Thomas Smith to do - Aldrin and Collins portraits in the style of the Paul Calle Armstrong portrait, signed by Aldrin and Collins. They make for a great threesome. |

I think Chris brings up a valid point RL - are you able to help him out? |

Hearing from the master's son regarding this print - of course I am not going to add Michael or Buzz. In addition - Neil is the icon - no offense to Buzz or Michael as I greatly respect their heroic efforts but Neil is the one who history will always reflect on. It is a museum piece as is! Thanks to all who responded. |

I obtained these two items by T. Smith from Chris Basil. I agree, they make fine additions to the Callee/Armstrong print. |

Just wanted to update everyone. I am in receipt of this gorgeous mint condition, never framed, signed Neil Armstrong/Paul Calle print. It is the nicest example I have ever seen.I will not be adding anyone else's signature to it. Special thanks to Chris Calle for enlightening us all on how these few unnumbered prints came to be. I believe there are a couple more of these unnumbered prints remaining. Please advise if you are interested and I will give you the contact info for the Lindbergh Foundation. |
