Topic: How do I remove lithos attached to other paper?

I recently obtained several lithos that are attached (either with glue or little pieces of double-sided tape - not sure) to larger pieces of paper. I'd like to know if there is a trick to removing them with as little damage as possible. I'm guessing that I'm going to have to go with peeling very carefully, but just in case there is some miracle substance or clever technique that will dissolve the adhesive, or lead to better separation, without any damage to the lithos, I thought I'd seek advice here. Thank you! EDIT: I peeled off one of the very common lithos. Somebody back in the 70s used little squares of slightly thick whitish tape - probably sold for scrapbook use - to affix the lithos to the larger papers. I appreciate the suggestions below. I want to be sure to use a substance that won't cause stains or color bleeding. Any more ideas for something that would weaken the tape's hold and then politely disappear? |

Try to work in little bits of talcum powder as you go; I've found it to be of some use. |

It can be done with minimal damage. Paper conservators use various solvents to loosen tapes and glues, then gently remove.I'm having this process carried out on some non-space related (130 year old) family documents. I'm extremely pleased with the result. Private message me if you'd like the conservation company's contact info. |

Try using Lighter Fluid (marketed as Ronsonol in the UK) or Clean Art. Test on an unimportant area as a precaution if possible. As it's a solvent, any residue should just evaporate away. | |
