I've got a boxed set of 18 color lithos, each approximately 15x18 inches in size, which depict various photos from the Apollo and Gemini space program. There is a booklet inside, also about 15x18 inches which is written in Portuguese (I picked this up last year while residing there). On the cover of the five-page, over-sized booklet it reads (in Portuguese) "To commemorate man's greatest achievement of all time, the 'C.I.R.' presents this album as a souvenir to its faithful friends, for an Omega was the first wristwatch used and worn on the moon." It has the facsimile signatures of the Apollo XI crew on the cover as well. Inside it describes the space program.My guess is that this was put together no later than the early 1970s, as the 18 color lithos are from different early missions. Among them are the WSS crew photo of Apollo XI, the 'visor' shot taken of Aldrin by Armstrong; Aldrin descending the LEM, images made of the moon and earth from different Apollo missions. 16 of the 18 lithos are in decent shape; two were taped to a desk. The box holding them is a large, rigid, bluish-white image of the moon surface. The captions underneath the photo on each litho are in English, for example: "Apollo VIII... Earthrise, seen from the moon" No other markings are apparent which would lead to knowing exactly who made the set, other than the reference to watch manufacturer Omega. I would guess it was done by their representative in Brazil as a keepsake for higher-end clients back in the 70s. There is slight yellowing on some as well as what look like small 'rust' spots on a few, but overall they are in good condition; the defects of course due to age and handling over the past four decades. I was told by the elderly gentleman that gave the set to me that it had been with him since the 1970s; he was probably close to 80 years old. I've made several detailed images and would be happy to email them to anyone interested. Thanks in advance to the cS community for any thoughts on these. |

These were done by Omega and were displayed in shops selling Omega Watches. I have the english language version. |

Thank you for the post. This is what I suspected but just wasn't sure. It's an interesting collection. The lithos themselves have english caption information, but nothing that linked them to Omega. The booklet was translated to Portuguese of course but even that didn't state in exact terms that it was in fact directly from Omega. Thanks again for the input. |

I have just located mine. I have 20 large photos. The folder with the facsimilie signatures says "This souvenir box is dedicated by Omega to its friends in commemoration of the most sensational exploit of all times, during which Omega became the first watch ever worn on the moon." Also there is the four page story of the event.From memory Armstrong's watch was left in the LEM and Aldrin later lost his. Contact me off list if you have any questions. | |
