There's an Apollo 7 patch on eBay, Item 300843475917, that looks like it's not an original Apollo 7 crew patch. Comparing it to the one shown on Chris Spain's website there are several differences such as the lack of 'ribbing' in the South American landmass, the details of the Command/Service Module, the colors of the land masses and the size of the VII.Would be interested in hearing what other collectSPACE members think about this patch. |

A modern copy by the looks of it. Certainly not an original crew patch.The ambiguous wording "Rare Apollo 7 patch." reminds me of Randy Hunt's eBay listings when he knew he was selling a replica. |

Yes, you gents are quite right. When I first looked at this patch in the early hours of the morning it looked ok, but now definitely not an original.I have e-mailed the seller telling him it is a replica patch. This is his reply. 'I have no idea, I just know it doesn't look like any of the Apollo 7 patches I typically see. Thanx.' |

I'll add this replica to my site when I get time this evening.My only worry is where this patch came from and why it is being listed in the classic 'Randy Hunt' style of a 3 day listing with ambiguous description. Is it an old Randy Hunt version? It looks very new indeed but could date from the 1990s or 2000s. There's nothing wrong with someone having produced an Apollo 7 crew patch replica, but it needs to be sold as such. |

Would Randy have gone to the trouble of having two different replica Apollo 7 patches made? The one shown on genedorr.com looks like a Crew Souvenir patch, and not a bad one at that. The one listed on ebay is pretty crude by comparison. |

I suspect Randy often manufactured on demand as runs of three patches. A collector would ask Randy if he had an Apollo 7 crew patch, he would go off and find an image, order 3 examples, sell one to the collector, sell one on eBay as a 'rare patch' and keep one example.If another collector asked him later for an Apollo 7 crew patch with a white surround he might well have done the whole process again with a different source image and the manufacturer would have re-done the artwork based on that new image. |

I should note that the seller has updated the description on eBay but it still doesn't make clear that it's not a vintage original crew patch.He does say it was acquired over 10 years ago, so Randy Hunt (4gator) is a likely source. |

This patch has now been withdrawn from sale as both us bidders requested to retract our bids.The seller may re-list this Apollo 7 patch as a Randy Hunt replica at a later date. |

Actually, as of approximately 5:28 AM EST when this patch listing was ended, none of the two bidders had requested a bid retraction and of the three bids placed, Keven T. Randall, with two bids was the highest bidder.Also at this time, Randy Hunt is only a suspect manufacturer, there is still not a known manufacturer. |
