Am thinking about buying an Apollo 17 checklist from Spaceflori or Moonpans, which are priced from around $5000 to $8500. A picture shows Cernan holding the book which they came from which was with him on the moon. Does any one have any advice about these two companies and the authenticity of these checklists? Thanks for any help.

They're very nice checklists with impeccable provenance. They've gone up in price (and value?) quite a bit over the past 5 years. I was able to get Cernan to write "Flown to the lunar surface on Apollo 17" on one page a couple of years ago - he recognized that it was one of his. I don't know if he still does that, though. |

I know Spaceflori and Florian. I have done business with him and have always been pleased. He has an impeccable reputation and if you buy from him you can be sure it is the real thing. I have not done business with Moonpans, but I understand they also have a very good reputation. |

Both companies' reputations are top-notch. Mike at Moonpans is always right on top of things and gives good, honest advice. Florian I know less well, but my dealings with him have also been excellent. |

I was also able to have Gene Cernan certify this page at Spacefest 2007.I acquired it from Rick Mulheirn just 4 years ago. (I can't believe it has been 4 years already, Rick!) Now with regards to the price, it appears that Florian's current offering may have smaller dimensions than my page. Also, and this is my opinion only, I do not care for the stamped certification on the page. I'd rather have it handwritten as Cernan did on mine. From watching past auctions, you may be able to buy a larger page, with a handwritten certification, for a thousand or two less than what Spaceflori is offering today. But... if you want it now and money is no object, then go for it. The provenance is impeccable. |

I can vouch for Spaceflori and Moonpans too. Both top notch guys with an impeccable reputation.Greg, you are right... four years has flown buy. For what it's worth, you got a bargain (a fraction under cost price as I recall as I was raising funds for something in particular). Since then those pages have doubled/trebled in value. I only wish I could have hung on to it. I know however that it went to a good home that appreciates it. |

One more thing there is a LM Activation Checklist from Apollo 9. I am looking at and it is priced at at $15,000. An opinion on that price would be appreciated. Thanks for any help. |

I have bought and sold with both Mike from Moonpans and Florian from Space Flori, and both are wonderful professionals who are an asset to the space collecting community. Always happy with their service, emails, and items I have purchased have always been as described, with fast secure shipping. |

I bought a mostly blank Apollo 17 checklist pages from Florian when he put them on sale in 2006. I had Gene sign it at a show in San Antonio. Gene had no problem signing it because I had all of the COA paperwork proving it's provenance. Two funny stories about this page. These blank pages weren't selling well for Florian, so he put them on sale and I bought this one for a good price. You can see it here. After I had Gene sign it, I sent Florian a scan of the page to show how nice it came out. Immediately Florian doubled the price of the mostly blank pages, then I later saw that he sent them to Gene to get signed in a similar manner. I should of bought them all, then showed Florian... oops. The other funny story is when I had Gene sign 20-30 items along with this checklist page, I placed all of the items in front of him to take one photo, instead of individual pictures with each item. As I'm taking the photo, Gene had a sour look on his face (I think he was getting bored), so after taking one photo, Gene didn't look happy. So I dropped the camera a few inches and jokingly yelled at Gene, "Hey Cernan! I just paid you $2500, do you want $5 more for a smile?" He busted out laughing, I shot three to four great images and it's one of my favorite photos of him, besides the one of him with my son. |

How about one of these pages with which there is a specific and clear photo showing it in use on the moon? I was just wondering how much value that would add to the piece, if anything at all? |

With the Apollo 17 checklists in question, the best you can do for an "in situ" photo is the LM interior photo of the helmets sitting on the ascent engine cover after the 3rd EVA. The checklists are in one of the pouches above and to the right of the helmets. |

Who originally produced the pages with the stamp and signature? Are each of the ones attached to a photo of Gene Cernan holding the entire checklist in front of Challenger stamped and signed in a similar way? |

I believe the stamp Cernan uses to authenticate items as flown is a more recent thing that he does. He did sell a few flown checklists before he started using the stamp and was happy to sign the pages at a later date when shown the full provenance. I have one of those pages which Cernan signed in pencil at a show and also signed a composite of the ascent engine photo and himself in the LM after a moonwalk photo. I request he sign it with an arrow pointing down as the frame and mount were designed so his text would point to the page. |

You can't go wrong with Florian or Mike. I've done business with them repeatedly over several years, and have even combined Apollo 17 checklists from Florian with Apollo 17 photos from Mike! See an example - and buy with confidence! |
