This is my first post here and I hope you guys can help me. I was told to come here because you guys were the most knowledgeable regarding space related collectables so hopefully you guys can shed some light on what I have.

Here is what I have:

Now I looked online and I can find a few examples of similar looking items, however the one that I have is horizontal instead of being vertical. It also has a pen and pen holder mounted to the top of it. The pen is just a brown pen with nothing on it that I can see other than saying "Made in the USA" on it. The brass mount is blank.

The only other thing that I know about this Beta Cloth Patch lucite display that might shed some light onto its origins is that on the side of it on a white sticker is is hand written the dimensions of the block. Its 6" wide x 1.5" thick and 4" tall. It says that and then the word Apollo on it.

Anyone have any idea on where the variation of this came from? Is is a prototype from Owens Corning? Was it given to an executive from Owens Corning? Was it given to NASA?

Any insight would be great. I know this kinda sucks, but I need to sell some stuff do to layoff and I don't want to get rid of this until I know what its worth. Thanks!

I've not seen one turned into a pen holder before. My guess would be it's just one of the owners in the past that decided to turn it on its side a glue a pen holder on the top.

This lucite have always been popular, selling for upwards of $90 in the last few years with some recent examples going over $200.

I would say the pen holder attachment would lower the value of this example but it should still sell well.

Its not just turned on its side with a pen glued to the top. Here is what all the other ones look like.

You can see that its a totally different layout of the patch, lunar vehicle and text than the one in this post.

I own one of the "portrait orientation" ones of this lucite which I really like. I've seen about a dozen trade on eBay and other places in the past 5 years for about $100 - $250.

I have never seen a "landscape orientation" one before. It is certainly interesting.

All times are CT (US)
