How does this one look to you? Don't ever remember any actually signed Clifton... |

I guess it is possible that the autograph was on a blank cover and then the stamped cachet, postage stamp, and cancel were applied afterward.CC Williams died in 1967, so I would say there are questions to be answered regaring the cover. It also looks like the signature is traced over, but CC could have done that if the pen was running out. |

Looks good to me. I have one signed very similar to that. I had two and sold one a year or two ago and this looks like the one I sold. |

Was yours on an Apollo 11 cover postmarked in 1969? Just out of curiosity ... |

I would reserve final judgement pending a larger clearer scan, but from what I can see in the small scan, it appears to be a labored, slowly-executed signature. |

Someone sent me a large high res scan, and it looks much better on a big scan. What looks like slowness on the smaller image is clearly just a blobby pen. In my opinion, it is likely authentic.Sorry for any confusion and the lesson learned is to not comment on small scans. |

I bought a different one of these FDC signed by CC Williams a few years ago from a eBayer called Gastampman. He bought a auction job lot of hundreds of covers (many signed) from a major collector whose estate was auctioned off after she died. Gastampman is a stamp dealer and offered many as autopens (and many were not!) which includes the one being offered. They are genuine and were signed as single plain covers which were then stamped with events much later after in this case the death of CC Williams. I can supply details of the original collector if you wish to contact me. The image below is the same one being offered on ebay currently and was sold in 2010. |
