I see eBay lot no. 251071038071 is generating some interest and the only reason I can see why is because there is a 4 and 3" version of the STS-8 ghost patch. However, it doesn't look very much like the one I last saw offered for sale by Goldberg (Sale 64) which made $312.

Am I missing something here?

It is damaged (no border) and the orbiter windows are not filled with black embroidery, as the original AB Emblem version for the crew has.

Yes Mike, you have missed the Lion Brothers ALT patch in the top left corner. It looks like it could be the bare cloth back version. (It also look complete and in good condition).

Good catch Kevin and thanks for the info. I've gone back to a previous thread from May 2011 which dealt with rising shuttle patch prices and have a better idea of the situation now. If it is as you surmise, the seller should be in for a nice surprise.

This raises two questions for me then. I checked the one I have that I believed to be an AB only to find the background and the windows to be twill, not embroidered. So I then checked Spacepatches.nl to find the one Chris has is also twill, not embroidered. So what gives? Can someone explain this? Should it be twill or embroidered?

My second question is can someone give a good description of the one that sold at the Goldberg auction?

From what I can see from the image posted on the Goldberg site, the background is black twill.

The one that was presented to AB by the crew (remember the presentation sets that surfaced recently) has embroidered windows.

Gonzo, e-mail sent with links to images and Goldberg Auction 64.

Mike, the lot Erik refers to is lot No. 200642983808 that sold for $305 with 24 bids from 8 bidders on 28th August 2011. (Ex Paul Gilsdorf estate). Crew signed night landing Presentation Piece with mission and 'crew' ghost eyes patch.

Sorry Guys, I must have been looking at the wrong image because there's no way I can say that that Goldberg patch is on twill. In fact, it's almost impossible to tell from that shot what the background consists of (and I've been using Photoshop since 1991!) Reckon I've confused it with ebay item: 190648826465, an image of which has been lurking around on my desktop for a while. My apologies.
