Two friends, an elderly couple, asked me to find out what an envelope they have is worth. I went to many websites and couldn't ever find an exact match with their envelope and when I came close, no value was given.

The envelope is 4" x 6" and has a glued-on 6 cent stamp with the American flag and a picture of the White House(?) and D.C. The cancellation is by machine and the postmark reads, from top to bottom, USS HORNET JUL 24 AM 1969 C?VS-12. The rest is a purple hand stamp.

On the upper left is APOLLO. Under that in smaller letters from top to bottom is MANNED LUNAR LANDING, then a picture of something, then U.S. NAVY RECOVERY FORCE. Next to the postmark is AS 506 and above right of the postmark is -11-. Below that, level with the picture of something is a picture of a space capsule.

The word PACIFIC, which should be below the picture of the capsule and to the lower right of U.S. NAVY RECOVERY FORCE, does not appear except as a faint purple line where the top of the word should be, as if the person doing the stamping didn't roll the stamp far enough down.

Can anyone give me an approximate value for this envelope? Thanks for your help!

Does the cover look like this, without the signatures?

If so it is fairly common and worth maybe $12-$16. I hope this helps.

Yes, that's it. Thank you for the reply and the info. I'll tell my friends.

Reviving this 2014 thread to ask what would be a value of similar cover with the Apollo 8 stamp and signed by Cpt. Seiberlich?

I also have one of these which was given to me by a Hornet crewmember and was wondering about its value. Thanks.
