A couple years ago, I purchased off eBay an item that I thought was a bit darkly prophetic. The seller claimed his father worked for Chrysler Aerospace (I have the guy's name), and that he was told by his foreman to destroy the posters after the "Apollo 1" incident. According to him, thinking they'd be valuable someday, he saved two. I bought one.

I've later found this, which is the only instance of this poster I've found.

The seller was selling some other things including Boy Scout patches from the "Cape Canaveral Council", which makes me think the story is true.

My question is any idea how I'd authenticate such a thing? Likewise, what would an appraisal of an item like this cost, and where could I get that done?

Very nice poster. I would be interested in obtaining one of these.

My firm had appraised one of these many years ago for the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

The Chrysler-Saturn 1B booster depicted on the poster isn't the same launch vehicle that actually had the first manned Apollo crew aboard when the tragic spacecraft fire took their lives.

Great poster! Thanks for sharing it.

It must have been a PR nightmare with the top NASA contractors when things went wrong with projects like Apollo 1 and others.

Tragic loss of life above all.

Neat 'what if' subject.

I remember that poster on eBay. The person I believe had two of them and was selling them at $500 each.

Thanks for all the responses.

Gary, that's the guy. And that's what I paid. As I recall he didn't sell the second one for that price.

I'm just trying to figure if I should spend an equivalent amount getting it framed to archival specifications, or donate it, or what.

I was debating about buying that poster at that time. I personally would have it professionally framed.
