I just came across this signed photo and I was wondering if anyone could identify the name in the inscription and who wrote it? could it be Deke? Even though you cannot see Gordon Cooper's signature it is there. Here is the inscription: Anybody have an idea of the value or the best way to sell this? Should I go to a specific auction house? |

While the signatures that are visible all appear to be authentic, the writing in the inscription does not appear to match the writing of any of the Mercury astronauts (or any other astronaut, for that matter). I suspect the inscription was a secretarial addition, which can be fairly common for these types of photos.Value is probably in the $2000-$3500 range. The faint signatures and the personalization will keep this from realizing top dollar. For selling, you could either try one of the auction houses (RR Auction, Heritage, etc.) or perhaps sell/consign to a reputable dealer. Keep in mind most auction houses will take a 20% commission from sales. And most dealers will need to purchase this below market value in order to make a modest profit from it...otherwise, it's not worth their time. And, of course, you could always try selling it directly to someone on CS or try auctioning it on eBay. Keep in mind those options have their own risks as well. |

Thank you very much for your help. I will look into the auction houses you mentioned as well. | |
