Possible value? does anyone have any info on it please?
Lucite - it is 3 1/4" X 2" X 1". Inside is a shuttle pin with a stylised Olympic torch and "HOUSTON 2012." Engraved on the lucite is "Flown on NASA Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-101, May 2000."
Assume that it was to promote the possible picking of Houston for the 2012 Olympics.  |

I picked one of those up about 5 or 6 years ago for around $80 from memory.Now shuttle has flown its last and given this is the Olympic year Houston pitched for I would estimate such a piece to be worth $150 to $250.....in my opinion. |

It's been a while since I saw one sold but a couple of years ago they were selling in the $180 to $250 range. |

There's no truth (but maybe credibility) in the rumour that for the London Olympics 2012 a pin was flown by carrier pigeon, due to budgetary constraints. |

Now on eBay: Lucite Encased Space Shuttle Atlantis Houston 2012 Olympic Pin. Not mine I should point out.Would make a nice ironic purchase for a British collector. |

I think that eBay lucite is overpriced. It has a lot scratches and such. A little fishy how someone asked and then it popped up on eBay with a price in the range of what was suggested here. The eBay one is worth more in the $100-$150 range in my opinion based on the damage. |

I don't think it's fishy - I think a cS longtime cS member noticed this discussion, remembered that he had one or decided to sell his based on the opinions provided, and set an opening bid within what was suggested, which was in fact the right thing to do. (Too bad about the scratches, though.) |

My apologizes and did not want to come off as "fishy." We are going through a few rough patches with a family we took into our home, and my wife loosing her job. I did see an opportunity, with this great resource that Robert has created with cS. I have re-shot the pictures to show the lack of scratches do to the dust, lint and tough item to capture on film. Interestingly-enough the current estimates for the cost of hosting the London 2012 Olympics - £9.3bn or $15bn - would probably have been enough to have Boeing build a brand new Shuttle and run it for around 20 missions. We wouldn't have had the Olympics but I think I know which I'd have preferred, and we could have flown as many "London 2012" pins on HMS (Her Majesty's Spaceship) Victory as we wanted.  |

Just one small technicality. It can't be HMS Victory as the original is still commissioned at Portsmouth and serves as the Navy's flagship.So, how about HMS Forlorn Hope? |
