I recently bought a large lot of space memorabilia including this photo with Armstrong's signature. The signature will wipe off when touched (bad pen) so it definitely is a real signature and not printed... but is it authentic? The previous owner received it from his grandfather and had it in storage for years. Any help is appreciated! |

Get a refund!!!Sellers make up all sorts of stories to pass off their goods as authentic. But no amount of tall tales will ever make this item come anywhere close to being an authentic Neil Armstrong autograph, in my opinion. Also, if the lot your purchased had other autographed material, I would check that out as well. Look at the exemplars here at CS. Not one looks even remotely close to the example you have. |

I'll second that ... it's a candidate for the Hall of Shame, certainly. A really, really bad forgery. The photo would be more valuable without the signature, unfortunately. I sure hope you can get your money back -- this doesn't even fall in the realm of "possibly authentic, but somewhat atypical". It is definitely bad. ------------------ John Capobianco Camden DE |

A very bad forgery indeed, but the back story is even more fake. This looks a lot like a modern print. Even the number in the corner looks like it was put in the image by computer.Have a look at the back of the print and you're bound to find a watermark that dates it to the last few years. The only place the previous owner found this piece is sitting on his inkjet printer waiting to have the bad forged signature added. |

That's what I think. That would explain why the ink isn't dry. I have a two year old inkjet test photo that I signed with various pens. The metallic paint and the silver Sharpie still haven't dried, (regular Sharpies - blk, grn, red, blue - dry smudge-proof). |

Once Chris [spaced out] pointed out the number in the corner, it immediately looked to me like the font the Smithsonian puts on their pictures.Compare with this photo of Armstrong on NASM's site. |

Perhaps signed by 'a' Neil Armstrong but not by 'the' Neil Armstrong featured in the photograph. |

Pretty bold to put a bad forgery in silver across Neil's face. Better to do it in black in a shadowy area.Kim AstronautCentral.com |

Be discussing this autograph is your waste of time. Is that a clear forgery, with yet clearer intention - make money. |

I bought it on ebay- the seller is no longer registered and his paypal account is suspended- so I guess I got ripped off. I'll try to wipe the 'signature' off and will at least keep the picture... what a deal |

Yes, I used PayPal, but after my claim was granted they couldn't recover any money. Well, lesson learned. |

In most cases, PayPal will cover your purchase if it is significantly different than described. Here's the page that shows their terms. Good luck. Dave |
