Hi all,
I just visited this website http://www.thespaceshop.com/oneofauco.html and feel like I went on a time travel.
I think all prices are -very- inflated.
What do you Autograph collectors think about it?
I mean for instance the Alan Shepard framed piece for US $2500 is unreal. I believe the going rate for A.Shepard is $100-$500 and the signed piece in question is a white index card signed by Alan. The photos are not signed. IMHO the prices asked seem to be valid just before the US or other countries land humans on the Planet Mars.
I will never understand why the KSC Visitor Store Manager allows such inflated prices. All I can do is not doing business with them and making other collectors aware of it.
Wow I just got out of my time machine. Sorry don't remember what year but it must have been 2025
I am happy to be back in 2006.
By the way the framed Shepard piece value right now is IMHO $900 and this is my high estimate. I don't believe that the two photos, two mission coins and two mission patches cost $1600
Very interested to hear other opinons on all the other autographed items offered.

Yes, I have seen the framed displays at the KSC site.

I think they just want to be able to say that they have some astronaut autographed items on their site -- anyone who knows a little about the hobby would know that they could duplicate the displays for significantly less money.

I suppose if one was looking for a gift for a friend, and money was not an object, then purchasing one of these displays might be an option (although Kim Poor would provide much better value for the money, I think) and would keep the buyer from having to do any sleuth work to find items to frame -- not to mention the time it takes to then do the framing. The framing on the Shepard piece would probably cost $400-500 retail, I'm guessing.

Heck, for just 1,000 bucks more, you could get Shepard and ALL the other Moonwalkers (except Armstrong, of course) framed from Novaspace!

I say, let 'em charge what they want to ... ultimately, the market will determine what the correct prices for memorabilia should be!

Was Armstrong really signing baseballs and bats for them? This truly strikes me as dubious (not to mention the signature on the ball looks wretched).

These pieces were not signed for the Visitor Complex. They are being resold through them. In at least the case of the bat and ball, both have been offered on eBay or astro-auction before and have failed to reach their reserve.

If I had to guess, the pieces likely are sourced by one, maybe two dealers at most.

All times are CT (US)
