Looking for any artefacts or memorabilia from the Mars Viking program. Happy to hear about anything you might have. Cheers.

Try to get the book "The Vikings of '76" by Hans-Peter Biemann!

Besides JPL buttons of the Viking missions, try to get NASA SP-series (Special Publications) such as:

  • NASA SP-334: Viking mission to Mars (1974)
  • NASA SP-425: The Martian Landscape (1978)
  • NASA SP-438: Atlas of MARS The 1:500,000,000 Map Series (1979)
  • NASA SP-444: Images of Mars - The Viking Extended Mission (1980)

Look for a copy of Scientific Results of the Viking Project. The book was published in September 1977 by the American Geophysical Union as Vol. 82, No. 28. It is 8-1/2 by 11-3/4 in. and is 1-1/2 in. thick.

It contains all of the initial scientific papers resulting from the primary Viking missions. Among the many authors are Soffen, Murray, Mazursky, Moore, Sagan, Mutch etc. The topics covered include orbiter imaging, infrared thermal mapping, radio science, entry science, lander imaging, physical properties, seismology, magnetic properties, meteorology, inorganic chemistry, molecular analysis, and biology.

The quality of the paper, the printing, and image reproduction is first rate, although the images are predominantly black and white with just a few color plates.

Are you interested in just about all types of Viking memorabilia?

If you check out an earlier topic of mine from 2019, Viking to Mars 1970-1975 astrophilately, you can see samples of Viking Mars signed postal covers, badges, decals, patches, medals, literature, photos, working NASA/contractor papers, and more. Be sure to scroll down as there are at least four different panel display presentations.

Of course, most of the lots depicted are from my own personal Viking collections and are not for sale, but others (extras) that are similar can be made available. Might be best to email me.

Also, NASA SP-441 "Viking Orbiter Views of Mars" published in 1980 is a good book.
