I have decided to sell several dozen items from my collection: autographs, flown items, rare items used in training, etc. This post will include the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo items, separated into groups by price. (I didn't want to fill up half this page with many posts.)

Shipping for most items will be $8 for Priority Mail, including tracking. Larger and heavier items, of course, will be more. All autographs come with a lifetime guarantee of authenticity.

I will be offline for a few hours each day this week, but I will carefully note who writes to me first about an item, and I will certainly reply within 12 hours of you writing. I hope you enjoy taking a look!

  • Mercury astronauts signed print. "Thunder Over The Patuxent", showing aircraft over Naval Air Station Patuxent River. This is the home of the US Navy Test Pilot School, and many astronauts from Mercury to the present day flew there.

Signed by Alan Shepard, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, and Wally Schirra. The first American in space, and the first three Americans to orbit the Earth. Also signed by VADM Jim Stockdale (Hanoi Hilton) Scott Crossfield (first man to fly at Mach 2), CAPT Syd Sherby (founder of USNTPS), Col Bryan O'Connor (Astronaut), CDR John Keilty (32nd CO of USNTPS), and artist John Shaw.

Quite large at 27"x40". With letter of transmission hand-signed by the Director of the USNTPS Foundation, which commissioned this artwork.

    Photos: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4

To my great annoyance, I dropped a binder I had brought home for online teaching onto the large portfolio holding this print. It sustained some damage on the far lower left. Here is a close-up photo showing these faults, most of which are far from the image and will barely show if you matte and frame it.

As a price comparison, here is one being offered for $895.

  • SOLD $495: Mercury 7 astronauts (all seven) signatures. A piece of framing matte with early signatures. Zarelli positive Letter of Opinion. Just about the lowest price you'll see for an uninscribed item with all seven signatures, since it is roughly cut and the Grissom autograph is light. I had printed some photos to matte and frame with it (until I lucked into a Mercury 7 SP at an okay price), and those photos are included. Note that they signed in alphabetical order, which is how they appear in the famous photo of them next to the jet.

  • SOLD $295: 8x10" photograph of the Mercury 7 astronauts in their silver spacesuits, signed boldly in black by the first four Americans to orbit the Earth: Glenn, Carpenter, Schirra, and Cooper (just a reflection on the left - no problem with the photo).

  • Alan Shepard and John Glenn vintage signatures in book. Fascinating book published in 1961, after the Mercury 7 astronauts had been selected but before any flights. Shepard and Glenn early-style signatures on the pages with their photos and biographies. (Inscribed by Shepard to "Whitey," who was NASA employee Don Whiting. A dollar bill flown on Freedom 7 and signed by him, among others, sold at Heritage a while back.)

  • SOLD $250: Four moonwalkers signed booklet. Buzz Aldrin, Alan Bean (adding "Apollo 12 LMP"), Edgar Mitchell ("Apollo 14"), and Charles M. Duke Jr. ("Apollo 16 LMP") signed 1997 Congressional hearings booklet "Defining NASA's Mission and America's Vision for the Future of Space Exploration."

  • SOLD $295: Apollo 12 Lunar Surface Operations Plan. An original October 1969 copy. A minute-by-minute flight-plan-like booklet describing the plan for the time the Apollo 12 astronauts would spend on the moon.

  • SOLD $195: Apollo 15 Live Data from the Moon printout from Mission Control. A similar item sold at RR Auction for $316 in 2013.

  • Bean, Alan: Signed rare special deluxe edition of his book of paintings "Apollo." With a slipcover and box. I have never seen another copy of this.

  • SOLD $195: Conrad, Charles: Signed 24"x18" limited edition print of the Bean visor shot. Produced in 1983. Signature a little light.

  • SOLD $195: Haise, Fred: signed NASA/Grumman Apollo Lunar Module transgraphic booklet. With him adding "Apollo 13 Lunar Module Pilot." The last two of these booklets that have sold at RR Auction (unsigned!) went for over $300.

  • SOLD $175: Leonov, Alexei and Tereshkova, Valentina: Signed Seagull print.

  • SOLD $195: "Astronaut Knife" M-1 manufactured by W.R. Case and Sons. Machete-style knife of the type carried on Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab missions. Measures 16.5″ in length and is numbered 454 on the stainless steel blade, which features one straight edge and one serrated. Knife also boasts a special polypropylene handle, which was changed to metal after Apollo 1. About 2500 of these knives were put in displays by Case. This one was never in a display, probably because only the S/N is distinct on the blade.

Page about the history. A display sold at RR Auction for $530.

  • SOLD $95: Full set of 1962-1963 booklets: "Results of the First United States Manned Orbital Space Flight" (and Second, Third, and Fourth): 1 | 2 | 3

  • SOLD $95: Apollo 8 Earth Orbit Chart. Printed before the mission and showing orbit 2 of 3. This was the last Earth orbit made by astronauts before humans left Earth orbit for the first time, heading for the moon.

  • $75: Apollo 8 Lunar Orbit Chart. Printed before the mission and showing the track for the first lunar orbit by humans. I should mention that the actual mission flew a slightly different track, as it lifted off on December 21 and this is the one prepared for a December 23 launch.

  • SOLD $95: Buzz Aldrin signed NASA publication "Log of Apollo 11"; an hour-by-hour (sometimes minute-by-minute) account of the mission, from being woken up on launch day to splashdown. 10-year anniversary edition.

  • SOLD $95: Buzz Aldrin signed 1969 "Journey to the Moon" special edition magazine. The size of an issue of "Life", entirely dedicated to photos and descriptions of Apollo 11.

  • SOLD $95: A vintage Apollo-era White Room jumpsuit. Made by Vidaro, size Medium, and made from 100% aramid, a very interesting synthetic material. Some accidental ink lines on the front, no doubt from the wearer using a ballpoint pen, but otherwise nice shape. Purchased at a Lunar Legacies auction in 2012, and consigned by "a space pioneer who worked in the White Room during much of the Apollo program."

In this photo of the Apollo 9 white room, a technician on the left is wearing one - you can see the distinctive squared-off collar.

  • $75: Apollo 12 Earth Orbit Chart. Showing the track they would take after liftoff and before translunar injection.

  • $75: Duke, Charlie: Signed small poster. A nice 12"x20" poster about "Charles Duke: Moonwalker", showing him on the moon and posing on Earth in his space suit. Smaller images of the liftoff, the lunar module over the moon, and splashdown.

  • SOLD $95: Haise, Fred: Signed Apollo 13 McDonnell Douglas guide. An unsigned copy of this booklet sold at RR Auction for $250 recently.

  • $95: Schirra, Wally: 1961 typed letter signed in full; and a handwritten description comparing what it was like for astronauts to move on the moon in 1/6 gravity and moving in space in microgravity (apparently written in 1980), signed with initials. Both for $95.

  • $95: Tibbets, Paul (Enola Gay pilot). Signed print of "Atomic Warfare is Born."

$50 each, or 3 for $120:
  • SOLD $50: Space Navigation Handbook. Amazingly, published in 1961, before anyone could actually use it yet. Prepared at the US Naval Academy by the pilot class in space navigation. Full of fascinating, complex formulae and diagrams. I had this copy, then was fortunate enough to buy the copy Gene Kranz used to learn about space navigation during Mercury. (This is NOT Kranz's copy.)

  • $50: Irwin, Jim: signed pamphlet with his WSS photo, not inscribed.

  • $50: Joe Kittinger signed book: autobiography "Come Up and Get Me."

  • SOLD $50: Buzz Aldrin: signed 1971 issue of National Geographic with Apollo 14 moonwalker on cover.

  • $50: Apollo-era Manned Flight Awareness posters. I love this series of posters, produced for NASA employees, and I am keeping a dozen, but these are duplicates or I just need to trim the collection a bit.

    Photos: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5

  • $50: Mitchell, Ed: Signed recovery cover.

  • $50: Oberth, Hermann: Signed space treaty

  • $50: Oberth, Hermann and Mrs. Robert H. Goddard: Signed space treaty

  • SOLD $50: Schweickart, Rusty: signed photo. (B&W, holding LM, with "Apollo 9 Press Conf[erence] 1969")

  • $50: Worden, Al: signed book "Falling to Earth"

  • SOLD $50: Worden, Al TLS (1971 on NASA letterhead; "Your interest in the manned space flight program is greatly appreciated."

  • $50: Yeager, Chuck Signed First Day of Issue sheet, with excerpt of him describing
