Trying to complete a set and so far I've found four of the six piece pad fragment cards that were issued by Ken Havekotte and Rick Boos, all numbered 174. While it would be nice to get 5 and 26 with No. 174 I doubt I'll ever be that lucky. Please contact me if you have either piece available or if you have the other No. 174's and want to rub it in. I've got single pad cards available with #066 and #177 for Pad 26 along with Card #177 for Pad 5.Unfortunately, I cannot offer the single cards that you're looking for with Card #174. More than likely another collector has those two pad cards that you're missing, but why your set is missing Pads 5/26, is unknown to me. |

I wanted to share another story about Ken and his hospitality.
I don't know Ken except through this forum. About 18 months ago I was at KSC to photograph Rick Houston for his book. We had some time to kill and I looked up Ken's name in the phone book and called out of the blue. He called me right back and could not have been nicer or more pleasant.
We eventually ran out of time and did not meet, but both Rick and I were impressed with Ken's openess and hospitality to us. Thanks Ken. |

The reason why in some cases there are not complete card sets is because some collectors chose to sell them individually on eBay and elsewhere, plus I broke up some sets to send to the astronauts that flew from certain pads. As an example John Glenn has his pad #14 card on display (set number 23) at Ohio State, item number 1149. Interesting enough I don't have a set myself. I would say that your set was sold individually on by some collector as I, like Ken, never broke up a set to sell to a collector. Glad you enjoy them, the launch pads are very special to me and a sad loss of unpreserved history. |

Ken has helped me finish my set with the two #177 cards (close enough to #174). As all the posts always say he has been very gracious with his time in correspondences and has even introduced me to other interesting artifacts I did not know about.
To paraphrase one of my emails I enjoy these cards since I was born after the Apollo era and these fragments are as close as I can ever be to the great and difficult moments that occurred on those pads. Thank you Ken and Rick for saving these pieces of history.
