Been off the reflector for quite some time, but am posting a list of books (am cleaning house). These may be of use to those collectors focusing on the early (pre-space) projects. Also a couple of earlier space exploration titles -
  1. Voyages to the Moon by Marjorie Nicolson. 1st printing 1948. A survey of lunar travels in literature from Bishop Wilkins to H.G. Wells... in russet cloth, VG+. $25
  2. The Coming Age of Rocket Power by G. Edward Pendray. NY, 1945. Fine in DJ. $50
  3. The Exploration of the Moon by Arthur C. Clarke, NY, 1954. Fine in DJ A classic in the field! $100
  4. Exploring the Stratosphere by Gerald Heard. London, 1936, 1st ed. VG in DJ. Early discussion of exploration projects; Century of Progress balloon, the Soviets' stratospheric balloon projects, Explorer I and II, Piccard's work and Goddard's research with rocketry and a look at his proposed rocket to the higher altitudes, and thence to the moon. The stratosphere is presented as the threshold to greater things...scarce. $50
  5. The Pre-Astronauts by Craig Ryan. Discussion of the high altitude balloon flight projects. VF in DJ $30
  6. Magnificent Failure; Free Fall From the Edge of Space by Craig Ryan. First comprehensive look at the high altitude jump attempts by Nick Piantanida which culminated in his death on the last try in 1966. $25

An original Dow Metyal coin, souvenir medallion made from Dowmetal, issued 1935 in conjunction w/the Explorer project - National Geographic Society and Army Air Corps high altitude flight project. With this is a booklet "Dow Metal; America's Lightest Structural Metal. 24 pp., 1949. illustrated, some dampstain on back cover, else VG. The 2 - $100
