A number of years ago I purchased a quantity of photos signed by Alan Shepard with JFK. There were 2500 of these limited edition photos signed by Shepard that also comes with a statue of Shepard on the Moon holding the American Flag. The statue is about 9 inches high. They were issued by The US Historical Society and come with two COA's.

A number of dealers offer just the picture for $495 but they likely purchased these from me. The photo is matted and ready to frame. I can show you a sample of the picture and statue, but the actual one you will receive is still sealed in the original boxes they were shipped in by the Historical Society. If you have the Regency Superior Oct. 5, 2012 catalog, you can see an example of these two items as lot number 360.

My price for both items is $200 plus $11 for domestic shipping. Two wonderful items at a very reasonable price. I have quite a few of these so multiple orders are welcomed.

Well, the signature is good, but the "photo" is an inkjet print, and the mat is not acid-free.

Kim (Spacefest)... I find it interesting that you have purchased 22 of these from me and sell it for $495 framed (and I don't think that includes the statue, though I am not sure about that). On your website you praise it to the "Nth" degree... A bit of sour grapes?

Richard, do you have any statues to sell separately? If so, please contact me direct with pricing. Thanks.

Ditto on the availability of the statue alone. I have the print and never considered that the photo may be ink jet and matting not acid free. Thanks.

I would rather sell them as a two piece set as they are sealed in the original boxes from the US Historical Society. If I get some folks who just want the picture or just want the statue I will break up the sets. I had not planned on doing that but I have already received requests for one or the other via e-mail. Let me see how many orders I receive and then will decide if I can accomodate folks..Is that fair enough?

By the way, I have many signed books (in quantity) and they will be reasonably priced. I will make separate posts on each book as I dig them out of storage. One interesting book I do have in quantity that might interest some is "I AM SPOCK" signed by Leonard Nimoy. I have a quantity of books signed by Shepard, Schirra, Carpenter, Glenn, Cooper, Aldrin, Mitchell, Schweickart, Duke, Cernan and non-space books signed by folks like George Foreman, Dan Quayle, Barbara Bush, Kirk Douglas etc, etc. What can I say, I'm a pack rat who has decided to unpack!!!

I'll probably order 1-2 of each of the signed Apollo books {OK, until the LOML sees the budget...)

Not sour grapes. Really the only (inexpensive) game in town. We only sell them framed (with a NEW mat), and the statues are stacking up! ($25 ea.) Inkjet only important for handling, getting wet, etc. The statues used to sell for about $85 regularly at auction.

Kim, cS is not the place to have a disagreement. As you point out I am the only inexpensive game in town as I had the foresight to pay many astronauts when they were charging $5 per signature. I just have too much stuff and want to clear out duplicate items as I am totally out of space (literally)...

At 61 I want to downsize and will be offering items on cS. With the amount of money I have spent with you over the years and a seller of hundreds of items on Astro-Auction I would not have expected your negative comment. But I appreciate it as I have received many requests as a result of your posting, so thanks...

Years ago, a "dealer" at a local junk auction house had a boatload of these statues and signed pics and they were sold for $20 for the pair. Of course, then (and now) $20 was like a million to me, so I was unable to pick up any at all. Too bad. Just an observation. The "statues" are really nice!

Decades ago I could by Armstrong's for $10 and Apollo 11 items for $25. Glad I did.

In 1970 my first car was a Dodge Challenger (first year they were made) and cost $3300 drive out. Now the new ones sell for $33,000 plus. As a guideline, if one adds a zero to 1970 prices you will typically get today's prices. Gas was 34 cents, now $3.40, sports tickets $6 for great seats are now $60. A great home on a golf course was $50,000 now $500,000, and a $10,000 salary is now equal to $100,000 salary, comics were 25 cents and now $2.50 and finally these Shepard/JFK items I am offering for $200 were much less. It is called inflation or commonly put, cost of living increases.

Still have more Shepard/JFK sets for sale... if interested please e-mail me.

By the way, to those who have read a few of my recent posts, my Step-Father (a WW2 vet) will have a quad by pass on Monday. Prayers would be welcomed. Thanks, Richard

First off thanks to all the prayers for my Step-Father posted on cS or sent to me directly. He had surgery this morning and it went well. Just talked to the doctor...

I wanted to mention one thing about the Shepard/JFK set and that is the domestic postage is $11, however if one wants it insured that will be another $5 (overseas postage is determined on a case by case basis). The reason I mention this is one package got shipped within the states and it arrived as if George Foreman (a Houstonian) put his fist through the box (kinda like his knock out punch of Michael Moorer). As mail prices have gone up, the quality of service has gone down. Raise your hands if you have received a damaged piece of mail in the last year... UNREAL!!

Two quick things...

My Step-Father (a day after surgery) is doing very well. Again, thanks for all the prayers.

Sold one of these yesterday to a guy in Australia... First time I have ever sold any item of any sort to that part of the world.

Made me realize that the picture showing Mr. Shepard with JFK will travel further than Mr. Shepard did on MR-3 and will also be a longer flight. Thought that was interesting.

Still have more for sale.

Received my signed photo and statue of Alan about two weeks ago. Sorry for the delayed post. Thanks for recommending I get both. I am so glad I paid the extra couple of bucks postage and got the statue (and huge flag) as it looks great! They both look new as if they were released yesterday. Really made my day. The photo with JFK and crisp signature will look great on display. Thanks Richard

Glad the package arrived down under safely. More importantly I am pleased that you like it. Many will realize that the statue is based on Mitchell's photo of Shepard on the moon. Photos of Shepard on the moon signed by him are very much in demand and rather expensive. Consider that if you can't afford that signed picture, these are a great alternative.

Some have asked that I offer just the picture or just the statue. I will do so, so here are the price listings:
  • Set: $200 plus $11 domestic shipping
  • Picture alone with COA: $160 plus $7 domestic shipping.
  • Statue alone with COA: $50 plus $9 domestic shipping. Insurance recommended at an additional $5.
Hope that helps some of you...

Glad it arrived safely and that you are pleased.

I received my statue and signed Shepard picture today. It was well packaged and I am extremely happy with both. The package had a big dent but because it was packaged and protected so well, the statue remained pristine. Both items exceeded my expectations. Thank you Richard. If you don't have either of these items, jump at the chance to get them. You won't be disappointed.

Glad it arrived "safely." Those packages leave here is perfect condition (as packaged by The Historical Society") and this is the second time the PO had disregarded lots of FRAGILE notations. Postage is up from 44 cents to 45 cents and will be going up at the end of the month again. If the debt ceiling isn't increased, one of the things that won't be funded is retirement funds for postal workers. I am overjoyed at that prospect.

Last update for now. Still have these packages available so if anyone wants one as a Valentine's gift for the Mrs., they are better than roses and probably cheaper.

Although the first item was lost in the post, Richard's customer service was excellent and he very kindly sent me a replacement. Great item and securely packaged.
