I'm in update mode and have been adding and will continue to add new items including some that are downright unique. A few highlights include: - An Apollo 13 Robbins Medallion with a personal hand written/signed letter of provenance from Jack Swigert.
- An item from the Gene Kranz Collection containing more than 10 signatures including Neil Armstrong, Gene Kranz a Supreme Court Judge and George Romney (Mitt's Father). This one needs to be seen to be appreciated.
Other items can be seen by visiting "Breaking News" from our homepage.Look for more new postings including some Neil Armstrongs, John Young, Alan Shepard and others in the next several days. Please visit Farthest Reaches regularly because new items will be posted every few days throughout the holiday season. Thanks to all for your ongoing support... |

Your black and white Armstrong business suit photo has a very odd-looking signature. I personally have some serious doubts about its authenticity and would advise getting second opinions on that signature. Perhaps Steve Zarelli or Gerry Montague would be willing to offer you their opinions on this piece, if you contacted them.If the item has indeed been sold, my main concern is that the buyer be assured that they own an authentic piece. |

I trust Steve implicitly. He runs one of the most trusted sites online. He deals with most astronauts directly. Not to the scale of Kim, but a very close second. If Steve sells it, you can be assured of getting an authentic genuine hand signed item by the astronaut himself. |

Anyone can be fooled by a really good forgery, so questioning something that appears on a dealer's site is not a criticism of that dealer. Everyone knows that Steve is a trusted seller.I agree with Mark about this particular signature, which has characteristic traits of the German forgeries of the 90s and early 2000s. |

Thanks for sharing your observations or comments. I have always taken them very seriously. Please also know that this piece goes way back and that any issues have already been addressed. I specifically remember discussion surrounding this signed photo at least a few years back or even longer, although it may have been outside of collectSPACE. At any rate I have finally removed it with hopes that this thread can return to its original intent which was to point you toward some very interesting and unique updates that are surely worthy of discussion. As always I thank you for your continued support over the years and for your thoughtful observations here related to this particular item. I will always remain open to feedback. More updates coming this weekend. ------------------ Steve Hankow, Farthest Reaches |

I would be curious to see the discussion addressing this item, if you can locate it. My concern would be that not everyone in the collecting community was up-to-speed on spotting the German forgery styles a few years ago. (Some still have trouble spotting them today.) In my opinion, this signature has problems that can't be easily overlooked. This items begs for a second analysis. At the very least, I think the buyer of this piece should be made aware of the concerns over this item and be given an option to return it, assuming that hasn't already occurred. That would be the fairest way of handling this situation. | |
