I have not been able to contact my step father who lives in Toms River, NJ which was where the center of Hurricane Sandy hit. I am heading to NYC later today (using frequent flyer miles, not cash) and a friend who has electricity and gasoline will put me up and drive me from Staten Island down to where my step father lives in Jersey... Growing up on Staten Island a mile from the South Shore which was totally destroyed it has me very, very depressed. I will list books when I return but in the meantime if you would like to make a donation to the Red Cross to help these folks who desperately need help it would be appreciated. If you mail me a check of at least $10 (hopefully more) payable to the Red Cross and a $2 check to me I will send you a NASA Red "S"# glossy from Apollo 6 (yes 6) for making a donation. The $2 is to cover my shipping of the glossy. I have about 50 of these Apollo 6 photos. Anyway, here is the address to mail the checks to. Please help the area to recover. I get the NY TV stations on Direct TV and it is far worse than what Fox, CNN, or the Weather Channel shows. Tens of thousands without homes and it is freezing at night. When Hurricane Ike hit Houston 4+ years ago I lost all the bricks on the side of my house and thank God for my having homeowners and flood insurance, but many in NYC will not be covered by the flooding (less than 37,000 in the NY metropolitan area have flood policies) and FEMA won't cover flood damages. I raised over $2000 for Ike victims from the "space community" and hope to do so for Sandy victims. Oh, a Nor-Easter is set to hit the area on Wednesday and Thursday bringing lots of rain and 50 MPH winds to the devastated areas for a double whammy. If you wish to make a donation directly to the Red Cross please do so... Richard Stonely PO Box 75223 Houston, Texas 77234 Thanks and God Speed to those in need... and to those willing to help... |

Thanks for the e-mail you sent...Also, one correction, the funds I raised were for Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, not Ike in Houston. I was too busy with getting my own property fixed (a $150,000 claim). Five days with no electricity in 95 degree heat stunk, but many suffered for a month or more and many of the homes in Galveston were swept out to sea leaving just a slab. There were hundreds of thousands with blue tarps on Houston and surrounding area roofs. So please help those who need help in NY, NJ and Conn. If you think these things can't happen to you, well let me tell you, one never knows what is just around the corner. Will have my laptop... |

Just got back from NYC (Staten Island) where I grew up and the south shore is a complete disaster. Thousands of homes totally destroyed. So sad... I just checked my PO Box and no one sent a donation to the Red Cross and in return would have received an Apollo 6 "S" # glossy. How disappointing.I returned from the PO only to find a call from the NJ police that my step-father suffered a heart attack and was taken to the emergency room. Trying to decide what to do, but will not be listing books until things settle down and I know what is going on. Hopefully some of you made a direct contribution to the NJ/NY/Conn disaster. At least I hope so. Half a million people still without power!!!! |

Great posts [just now found this thread] - kudos to you for organizing a drive. You'll get more takers eventually, and you'll burn thru the 50 quickly I hope. It may be worthwhile setting up a way to accept Paypal payments, too... PS: I already sent a Red Cross check directly. |
