I'm still hunting for a NASA meatball in the 3" to 4" diameter range with the Mercury-Gemini-early Apollo era white border, with the points of the vector protruding and also outlined in white. I'd love to acquire at least two.

To be clear, I'm not in the market for vintage examples at corresponding prices. I'm looking for recent (or new in appearance) productions at a reasonable price, so long as they're in prime condition, of quality manufacture, and reasonably accurate in detail.

Direct offerings, or sources, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure I remember seeing any modern version of the 3" white bordered meatball patches.

The only one I can think of is the modern version of the larger 4" DFRC patch which you see from time to time. This is almost identical to the original.

I agree with Chris, I don't recall seeing any recently produced versions either. Not with the white borders. (Maybe check with AB Emblem?)

However, I would suggest visiting his website so you can tell us exactly which version you're looking for. That may help. I'm guessing variants 2 or 4?

Unfortunately, because you want a white bordered version with the extended vectors, and because there aren't any recent reproductions that we know of, it may be a bit more than you're probably expecting. If you're not interested in the pattern of stars on the patch, the DFRC versions are probably the closest to what you're looking for (outside of variants 2 and 4) and are available on occasion, but they aren't you're typical meatballs in price either.

Help us here and maybe we can help you!

Kevin (GoesTo11) actually contacted me a couple weeks ago about looking into making a reproduction. I have another project that I need to complete first (which is almost finished), although afterwards I'm going to try to make a high-fidelity replica.

Yes, we need a good replica patch of this white bordered NASA logo patch. I feel my collection of Gemini patches is not complete without that...

Same here... I'm looking to complete a framed display of AB's recent replicas (along w/John Berry's GT-3 and the Novaspace GT-4). With that in mind, my preference for a "model" would be the Type 2. In fact, that image from Chris' site was what I sent to James when I proposed the project.

If anything comes of it, I'm sure one or both of us will keep cSers updated as warranted.

I happen to purchase my white outline "meatball" patch back in 1994 at the US Space & Rocket Center gift shop when I was attending Space Camp.

All times are CT (US)
