This is a fragment of Skylab that was recovered in Australia and encased in a pyramid shaped lucite display. There were two versions of this lucite produced: The Silver version has a one color (silver) Skylab program emblem on the bottom of the lucite. The gold version has a full color Skylab program emblem on the bottom of the lucite. This is one of the harder to find Gold versions. What's great about this lucite is that the artifact displays a lot of scorching from it's re-entry, and the lucite is in absolutely MINT condition. These lucites are getting harder to find — I haven't seen one offered in an auction in at least the last two-three years. It's been several years since I last had one of these lucites for sale, and this is the only one that I was able to get. I'm asking $245.00. I have a pyramid Skylab Lucite as well but it doesn't have silver or gold. It's a full color circle... is that the third version? |

The one you have is what I call the 'Gold' version. I call it that because most of them were sold packaged in a velvet bag that has a gold and black braided drawstring. The acrylic has a full color Skylab program emblem on the bottom and the box that contained the acrylic also had a gold colored Skylab program emblem on the top.The 'Silver' version had a silver and black braided drawstring, a silver Skylab program emblem on the bottom of the acrylic and a silver Skylab program emblem on the top of the box. I have seen another version of this acrylic. Like the other two it has a pyramid shape, but the bottom of the acrylic is black with no emblem. |

My Skylab lucite is nothing like those described above. Given to me many years ago, it is rectangular in shape, about 3x2x0.5 inches in size. It contains a small printed card below the fragment which reads "SKYLAB: Launched May 14th, 1973. Re-entry July 17th 1979. This piece is part of an oxygen tank found S.E.E. of Rawlinna, Western Australia."The fragment itself is approx 2 inches long and looks like a piece of chewed straw. |

I have the 'Gold Version' as described above. Came in a velvet bag inside a black box with Skylab embossed on the outside of the box. My wife got it for me years ago... |

I am glad Randy sold his acrylic; it seemed like quite a steal!I think it would be interesting to get a thread started with all the different Skylab acrylics out there. We know Robert's Skylab piece is quite unique  |
