The artist who painted the Apollo 11, James R. Cooper, is my stepfather, and was married to my mother for more than 25 years.

Many don't know this, but when Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins returned from space, Michael Collins took the original Apollo 11 painting, and he and the other two astronauts signed the artwork and gave the original artwork back to my stepfather for him to keep. This was the only piece of Apollo artwork ever released back to the artist.

Here's the rub. I possess not only photos of Michael Collins presenting the original artwork back to Jim, but I have the only three remaining prints of the signed artwork. Jim, at the 20th anniversary of the space flight, sold them in Houston for $65 for commemorative purposes.

I assure you these are not $65, but each print is also originally and individually signed by James Cooper. Therefore, for those serious space collectors out there, I may be swayed to part with two of these prints for the right amount of monetary pressure. You cannot get these anywhere else unless you bought one in 1989 (only five were sold in 1989).

Also included with the print is a photograph of Michael Collins presenting the original bearing the astronauts signatures to Jim Cooper. This is for serious collectors.

So my question would be, what are you looking to get for one?

One already sold, the second I will let go at $500, and the third will most likely go up on eBay with a $1000 reserve, unless the same person buys both at $500 each. I've done my homework and this is more than reasonable.

They are worth much more, but as long as they are appreciated, that's all that matters. I would consider any reasonable offer.

I guess I'm confused. Is this a print of the painting just signed by the artist — or is this a print signed by the artist and the Apollo 11 crew? Obviously there a difference of at least a couple thousand dollars between the two. Thanks

When the crew returned to earth, they signed the original painting and presented it back to Jim, the artist. The original signatures of the astronauts are on the original.

These are the only prints made AFTER the astronauts signed the original. My stepfather's signature on each print is original.

I am receiving a lot of interest, and am thinking of auctioning both, but I will honor this offer for another hour or two for those who are serious. You can call me at 864-905-4400 with questions.

Mark, can you provide us a picture of the print signed by your father-in law?
