Interested in purchasing and/or possibly trading for a flown Enterprise ALT, STS-3 American Flag. In addition I'm searching for a flown American Flag from any one of successful Challenger missions. |

I'm still searching and interested in purchasing and/or possibly trading for a flown Enterprise ALT, STS-3 American Flag. In addition I'm searching for a flown American Flag from any one of successful Challenger missions.A fellow collectSPACE member helped me obtain an STS-2 flown flag from a previous request. |

From my experience, obtaining an STS-3 Flown Flag is rather difficult. For some reason, those are harder to find the STS-1, 2, and 4 flags. STS-4 seems to be the common one of the four, followed by STS-2, STS-1, and then STS-3. It is almost just as expensive as STS-1 as well. Good luck! I will keep an eye out for it. |

Thanks for the input. I do know they exist, but as you have stated, they probably are rarer than the other three. Just have to keep my eyes posted, but if anyone has one that they would like to sell, I would be interested in purchasing it. That is as long as its not the going price of $1,000 like the individual who has been trying to sell the STS-2 flag on eBay for some time now.The reason for my interest in flags, is that I have been collecting flags for the past 27 years of my 32 years of existence and I'm not talking just space related flags. I collect old vintage American flags and have over 600 in my collection today. I have started my little own "campaign" entitled "Save a Flag". Collecting space flown ones is just a combination of my interest in the space program and flag collecting. In addition I have been trying refocus my collection from autographs to more flown items. Autographs are great, but I think items that have been there is a little bit better. If the flown item is signed by the individual who made the trip, well that would top it all in my opinion. Again, thank you for the note on the STS-3 flags and please let me know if you hear of anyone selling. |

With respect to some recent pricing, less than a month ago Regency Superior auctioned off both an STS-2 and an STS-3 with extras. With Buyers Premium, the STS-3 with extras only sold for $269 compared to $468 for the STS-2. This of course may be atypical. |

Thank you for the more factual quote on what it might cost for the STS-3 flag. While they might seem rare I can't see it commanding as much as an STS-1 and 2 flag. But who knows, I have seen stranger things before. |

There you go man, confusing mission history with market value. The value of space (or any type) memorabilia is market driven, not place in history driven. I've been involved in discussions with various astronauts who feel their signing fee should reflect their place in history. That's all well and good, and I certainly understand that, but except for Buzz and Neil, not really what one could consider reality. Again, I agree with what you're saying, and the historical aspect should be a much more realistic consideration, but in most cases it simply is not. |

That is a very low and good price for an STS-3. Ironically, my STS-3 flag was the most expensive of my four flags. Of course, my STS-3 presentation is almost flawless, so condition also plays a role in price. I actually have been looking for an STS-3 for you and have yet to see one. I have ran into several STS-1 flags. |

I will agree that the market does command the prices of items, but I do feel its place in history does have something to do with it too. Yes, from what I can tell, the STS-3 flags do seem harder to find, but I'm not going to let that be some fuel for someone who is quick to make a buck by thinking "hey I got something here." It's all about patience at this point in my collecting. I'm sure that one will eventually pop up for sale at a reasonable and fair price through the right channels. |
