I'm selling my collection of covers commemorating flights of the North American Aviation X-15 between 1959 and 1966. There are a total of 139 covers, with about 30 duplicated dates but mostly different cachets and/or postmarks. This lot includes cachets by Goldcraft and the familiar “Boy Scout” cachets, and there is even one by Swanson/SpaceCraft. There are a couple of postal cards with cachets, too. Highlights include the first powered flight of the X-15 on Sept. 17, 1959 by Scott Crossfield and four different flights by Neil Armstrong. Other X-15 pilots represented are Robert White, Pete Knight, Robert Rushworth, John McKay, Forrest Petersen, Bill Dana, Joe Engle, Milt Thompson, and Joe Walker. In addition, this lot contains 4 signed covers. First is a cover commemorating the second powered flight of the X-15 aircraft on October 17, 1959, piloted by Scott Crossfield and signed by him. Next is a cover commemorating the 19th flight of the X-15 aircraft on August 12, 1960, piloted by Robert White and signed by him. He also added his own information about the flight’s altitude and speed below his signature. Third is a cover a cover commemorating the 25th year of advanced flight research at Edwards Flight Research Center. The cover was cancelled on Sept. 9, 1972 at Edwards, California and signed by X-15 pilots Robert White and Pete Knight. Last is a first day cover for the Project Mercury stamp, signed by X-15 pilot Bill Dana. Please email me with any questions and/or scans. Price is $650.00, including shipping to anywhere. Thanks, Steve | |
