Price Reduction Please email for photos. - Apollo 15 (4.4-inch wide by 2.5-inch tall weighs ~20 ounces) - $400 + shipping. There is a photo of this lucite with Dave Scott at the 2018 Spacefest.
- Apollo 17 (2.4-inch wide by 1.4-inch tall weighs ~4 ounces) - $200 + shipping
$550 + shipping gets both. The Apollo 15 lucite has three separate pours of blue, white, and red over the sticker with red as the final base. Kapton foil and heatshield fragments are in the blue layer. The Apollo 17 lucite has four separate pours of clear, red, white, and blue over the sticker with blue as the final base. Kapton foil and heatshield fragments are in the thin clear layer layer. There is another collectSPACE thread that discusses this type of lucite/acrylic in four different sizes. I believe that these lucites were made by Norm Pavy(?), an Apollo era North American Aviation machinist(?) who worked on construction and post-flight analyses of Apollo capsules. It appears that he used different sized lightbulbs for the RTV mold shape and pored acrylic resin in layers. The final product sits upside down from its production orientation. The emblems are Apollo-era stickers set over an initial clear acrylic "pour" into the inverted dome-shaped mold. |
