Own a piece of Hubble. This blade shutter, developed by Ball Aerospace for the HST Fixed Head Star Tracker (3 FHSTs onboard Hubble). Unflown, outsourced from Goddard during a property disposal sale. The Star Tracker provides guide star alignment to accurately point HST at the target being imaged. 3 were installed. The Blade shutter was closed to protect the FHST CMOS sensor from being overdriven/damaged from bright starlight. This same shutter design was also applied to the first generation FHST's installed onboard Shuttle.Asking $1750 plus insured shipping... Click on image for higher res pics:

After further consultation with Ball Aerospace this has been identified as originating from the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (a sister Great Observatory to the Hubble Space Telescope). Hubble used identical technology (2 Fixed Head Star Trackers on the GRO, 3 on HST).Scott |
