Taking Orders For:FLOWN SKYLAB FRAGMENT in PYRAMID This is a fragment of Skylab that was recovered in Australia and encased in
a Lucite pyramid. The pyramid comes with a small, three page illustrated folder with a picture of Skylab in orbit on the cover that includes a copy of a letter from NASA authenticating the fragment, a picture of Pete Conrad, and a copy of a letter from
Conrad describing the Skylab missions. There is no velvet pouch, and I may not be able to get the decorative box for them, but the
Lucite will be in MINT condition and will have the Certificate of Authenticity (the
three page folder). I checked e-bay and did not see one for sale, but the ones selling recently on e-bay were the more common Silver version with a silver Skylab emblem on the bottom of the pyramid. The pyramids that I will be getting are THE GOLD VERSION (the Skylab emblem on the bottom of the pyramid is in FULL COLOR). I do not know how many of each were produced, but it is my understanding that the GOLD version is more limited than the SILVER version. I will be purchasing them from a collectibles dealer while on a business trip,
so before I purchase them I want to get a good idea of how many to buy. I sold five
of these same Gold version pyramids several months ago for $220.00 plus shipping. I do not know if I will be able to purchase them at the same price that I did earlier this year, and I know that the individual that I purchased them from does not have many left, but I don't plan on selling them for more than $250.00 each (plus shipping). If I can purchase them for the same price I did
earlier this year then they will sell for $220.00 each, but keep in mind that they could be $250.00 (plus shipping). The price
that I have to pay for them, and therefore the price that they will sell for, will probably depend on how many I buy, so if you are DEFINITELY interested and want one, please let me know so I know, in advance, how many to buy. Also, because I am not set up to accept payments using charge cards I would like to know if you live in the United States or overseas so I have an idea of whether I should set up a paypal account. As one of the people who purchased a pyramid from Randy earlier this year I can say that he is absolutely outstanding to deal with, a great seller, and one of the most careful packers and posters I have met in the field -a real asset to the collecting community!Cheers Craig

I also bought a Gold Edition Skylab fragment from Randy. He is easy to deal with and the piece looks great.

At the risk of jumping on the bandwagon, I got the first one Randy brought back and liked it so much I am trying to have him get me another. I think the colored version is much more attactive than the black and silver.Also, I've known Randy for over a decade and can tell you he is a stickler for quality and condition. In that case I will jump in too... I haven't bought those pyramids from Randy, but I have picked up a nice X-15 model. I can vouch for him. And I second Danno's comment, Randy has an eye for exacting quality and condition.------------------

Not to burst the bubble maliciously, but I must advise all who read this that the "more limited" gold piece pyramids with full colour skylab crests are often available on Ebay in the $80-90 range. I myself purchased one mint and complete with cards, certificates, velvet bag, and display box (brown with gold leaf skylab crest impressed) off of Ebay about a year ago for $82, and I've seen quite a few offered since then. Caveat Emptor. |

Don't get me wrong, sapper, if you can find them out there - go for it. I tried to get one for awhile and was willing to settle for a silver version. I was repeatedly sniped.I just wanted to let people know that Randy has the product, it is of high quality and from a person with a good reputation. I have been debating whether to respond to Sapper82's posting, but his use of 'Caveat Emptor' may lead some individuals reading his remarks to the conclusion that I am not being truthful in my statements about the Gold version of the Skylab fragment pyramid. He is correct that 2-3 years ago there was an individual selling them on e-bay for around $89.00. In fact, I bought the Gold version pyramid that is in my collection from this individual, although there was some damage to the box. Since then I have only seen Silver versions offered on e-bay with a reserve of $189.00. I followed the bidding on them over the past year or so and found that some sold for $189.00 while others sold for over $200.00. If there were any Gold versions offered I did not see them. But based on the fact that the individual that I bought my pyramid from had only a few Gold versions and many Silver versions and the fact that I have only seen Silver versions on e-bay I came to what I think is a reasonable conclusion that the Gold version is more limited. Also, if one reads the 'testimonials' of people who bought the Skylab pyramids from me earlier this year (who were very happy with the price and the condition of the pyramids)and the statements from Danno and AztecDoug who know me personally one should conclude that I am not trying to misrepresent the availablity of the Gold version nor asking an unreasonable price. If someone wants to wait and hope that one is offered for $89.00 on e-bay or some other forum then that is their option(although I haven't seen any sell for that price in over a year). And certainly Sapper82 has a right to post his opinion. But I do not agree with his use of 'Caveat Emptor' with it's negative implications.

I wasn't suggesting that you're ripping people off, nor was I questioning the quality of the product or service you're offering (though I do wonder why you're getting so defensive...)I was making the point that these lucites are not as uncommon as you claim. The last seven lucites of this type I have seen for sale (Ebay and elsewhere) over the last 18 months averaged between $72 and $167, (the reserve was $89 not $189) the only exception being the one offered in Superior fall 02 auction (lot 504) that sold for $288. But as we know auctions always tend to push items lower or higher than the market average. You claim the Gold version is rarer than the silver version however the Gold one (like that which I bought on Ebay) seems to come on the market more often. Other than rumour how do you know that the Golds were more limited without knowing how many were produced? Without numbers this this is pure speculation. As well, these items were made in the 1990s, so it's not like they've disappeared off the planet. That said, simply asking someone at Out Of This World Collectibles (the makers of these lucites) may bring out the answer. Maybe you're right, but if I was buying I'd like to know for sure before scrambling out to pay for something. But yes, it's just my opinion. | |
