The Explorers Club release
Astronaut Central: Space Stories

October 25, 2014
The Explorers Club, 46 E 70th Street, New York

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, Oct. 25, and join us at Club headquarters in New York for a special all-day Space Stories program focusing on the history of human spaceflight. This year's venue will feature astronauts and engineers from a number of different manned missions using the Cold War as a backdrop.

Among confirmed storytellers so far are Gen. Charles Duke FN'92, Apollo 16 moonwalker; Richard Garriott MN'98 and Greg Olsen MN'07, both of whom flew aboard Soyuz to ISS; four-time Shuttle/Soyuz veteran Leroy Chiao FN'05; Walter Cunningham, Apollo 7 Lunar Module pilot; Cady Coleman, who performed a live flute duet with Ian Anderson aboard ISS (and who will play at Space Stories); and Brian Binnie MED'06, who piloted SpaceShipOne to win the Ansari X Prize in 2004

Many others have been invited to speak and updates will be forthcoming on the Club website and via e-blasts, but this promises to be one for the ages (pun intended!).

Save the date — Oct. 25 — it will be "astronaut central" at The Explorers Club!

I had to leave early but it was quite an event! The Explorer's Club is a beautiful building. I particularly enjoyed hearing how Cunningham found out that he was number 14 of the 14 men in his group. I don't think I've ever heard that it was supposed to be a group of 13.

Duke's tale of Mattingly's wedding ring was great, never heard that one before. A great event, all the guests were excellent.

It was a great event. C-Span recorded it but has not yet aired the program.
