Institute of Physics lecture by BBC "The Sky at Night" presenter Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock.
To Boldly Go: The three eras of space and when will we all get out there?

Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock’s lecture will relate to her childhood fascination with space and her dream of getting out there beyond our own planet and her understanding of the physics behind this.

Her lecture will focus on the three eras of space, the first of confrontation borne out of the Second World War where the desire to create missiles and show technical superiority was the order of the day. The second era where nations across the world collaborated to get further into space and establish a permanent habitat. The third era, the one we are entering now, is the era of space commercialisation.

Maggie believes that commercialisation and the application of physics is the key to getting us all out there, but if so, how far will we go?

To be held at the Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London on June 3, 2014. Details here (PDF).

All times are CT (US)
