Dr. Owen Garriott gave a slide presentation at the National Air and Space Museum tonight (March 13). A Skylab 2 film was also shown. The highlight of the evening was the question and answer period. There were at least six collectSPACE members in the audience. |

Thanks Garry, sounds like a good event. For those who missed it, here is the archived webcast: Owen Garriott is a former NASA astronaut, member of NASA and National Research Council Committees, vice president of space programs at Teledyne Brown Engineering, and adjunct professor in the Laboratory for Structural Biology at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)Garriott, one of the first six scientist-astronauts selected by NASA, will commemorate the human legacy of Skylab by drawing upon his experience as a member of the second Skylab crew. From July 28th to September 25th, 1973 Garriott performed observations of both the Sun and Earth's resources and human experiments relating to how the body adapts to weightlessness. During the 59-day flight, he also performed long-duration, extra vehicular activity tasks, ranging from installing scientific instruments to covering the Skylab workshop with a reflective sun shield to stabilize the temperature of the world's first space station. |
